Expectations:

We are seeking a skilled Senior Engineer to join our Indiana, PA team. This successful candidate will have experience with motor and/or generator repair and may support other sites within the North Region as needed and for more complex issues. This role demands a blend of deep technical expertise, leadership, and project management skills to drive the development and implementation of innovative repair services and electrical designs.  This position will be responsible for performing Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) to develop engineered solutions and for providing technical support for both in-shop and field repairs and provide technical support and consultation to the Indiana sales team.       

Unmatched Customer Service: 

  • Actively participate in the IPS UCE tier meeting process – UCE1 and above 
  • Provide engineering and technical support to the Indiana PA team as a primary focus.  Support other service centers in the North Region as needed. 
  • Ensure that IPS solutions meet customer expectations and applicable industry standards. 
  • Assist with implementation of quality improvement actions
  • Ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures
  • Utilize Continuous Improvement Process Solution (CIPS) tools and Processes to deliver continued quality and productivity to our customers

Responsibilities:

This candidate should possess a comprehensive knowledge of rotating machinery, including motors, generators, and the principles of mechanical design and analysis. Successful candidates thrive in a dynamic fast-paced environment, can manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively, and responds quickly and effectively to new challenges and opportunities.   

  • Supporting and facilitating the shop's daily operations and addressing complex engineering challenges.
  • Collaborating with customers, offering field support for failure analysis, and troubleshooting issues on-site.
  • Conducting thorough Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCA) on equipment failures.
  • Creating detailed technical drawings and specifications for the fabrication, construction, modification, and maintenance of devices, parts, and equipment.
  • Driving continuous improvement in processes, procedures, documentation, and the development of tooling and equipment.
  • Gaining expertise in motor/generator operational theories and repair methodologies, along with understanding IPS’s technical capabilities.
  • Ensuring adherence to relevant regulatory standards.
  • Establishing and refining design standards and best practices.
  • Write failure reports with critical technical analysis
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and timely project delivery.
  • Manage and support shop with capital improvements and integration of new capital manufacturing assets
  • Availability for travel up to 15% to provide client and field engineer support as necessary.

Qualifications and Competencies:  

  • B.S. or M.S. Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree preferred – open to other based on combination of degree and direct technical experience
  • Preferred qualification: 5+ years’ experience with electrical motor design, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting  
  • Experience performing RCFA to determine failure mode 
  • Experience with the design, manufacturing, application, repair, testing, maintenance, and diagnostics, of electric motors and generators
  • Ability to perform advanced diagnostic assessments to troubleshoot motor, generator, and control issues with applicable test equipment
  • In-depth knowledge of vibration analysis and relevant standards (e.g., API 610, 617, 670, ISO 1940, 10816).
  • Understanding of various bearing types, lubrication systems in rotating equipment, and associated standards.
  • Ability to perform RCFA and develop technical solutions to OEM and aftermarket design-related problems
  • Provide technical phone support for service centers and field service personnel
  • Provide technical support to the sales team, participate in customer visits, customer and sales training
  • Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to prioritize and maintain high degree of organization
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to communicate technical data in a clear and concise manner
  • Poses excellent written and verbal skills
  • Knowledge of industry standards related to rotating equipment, such as IEEE/NEMA/IEC/API/ISO/ANSI.
  • Proficiency in CAD, SOLIDWORKS, and Finite Element Analysis methods
  • Experience in fabrication, machining, manufacturing, machine repair, or related fields
  • Demonstrated capability to manage diverse tasks independently
  • Skills in analyzing technical specifications and developing detailed design/service proposals
