A day in the life…
The Clinical Laboratory Manager is responsible for assisting the Director with the overall operation of the laboratory. Includes, but is limited to, the competency of personnel who to perform test procedures and record and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently. Assures compliance with applicable policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Demonstrates ability to consistently meet the department work schedule.
  • Functions as staff in accordance with the job description of a MT or MLT. 
  • Collaborates with the Clinical Laboratory Director in interviewing, hiring, orienting, training, scheduling, evaluating and terminating subordinate staff. Maintains awareness of employee relations issues and keeps Clinical Laboratory Director informed as appropriate.
  • Oversees safety and compliance programs in accordance with applicable state regulations.
  • Develops and maintains all department staff work schedules to optimize patient satisfaction and to provide most effective utilization of physician time. Monitors department employee worked hours and approves for submission to Payroll.
  • Works with the Clinical Laboratory Director in providing input and assistance as needed or requested in developing departmental policies/procedures.
  • Assumes accountability for enhancing own knowledge through professional associations, journals, workshops, inservices, etc. In collaboration with management, maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations to pro-actively keep updated on potential issues affecting the department. Recognizes implications of applicable laws and/or regulations and recommends courses of action to ensure compliance. 
  • Maintains awareness of own safety in carrying out duties and responsibilities. Adheres to universal precautions and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient and corporate/physician financial information. Uses discretion in patient interactions.

Qualifications

  • Education: Licensure/certification: Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technician certification required.  Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Previous Work Experience: Previous experience as M.T. or MLT in a clinic or hospital preferred.
