A day in the life…
Wondering what a day in the life of Pre/Post OR and Cath Lab RN at The Iowa Clinic might look like?
  • Assess, monitor, and provide professional nursing care for patients under assigned physicians, following established nursing standards.
  • Support physicians in the ambulatory surgery center by assisting with procedures, patient assessments, transfers, and education in Pre/Post-Op and Cath Lab settings.Delivers patient care consistent with established professional nursing standards and surgery center policies and practices.
  • Gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative, PACU (postoperative anesthesia care unit) and post-operative care in the OR and Cath Lab while maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters and keeping patient flow in mind.
  • Observes patients for side effects of anesthesia and monitors patient`s level of consciousness throughout the sedation recovery.
  • Provides pre-operative and discharge instructions to patients including, but not limited to, diet, activity, medication reconciliation, and obtaining a post-operative appointment, if needed.
  • Assures education is provided to patients and their families regarding post-surgery care at home.

Education
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Qualifications
  • Two years nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting - Pre/Post Op OR or Cath Lab required.
Required Licenses
  • Current RN license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa.
  • BLS and ACLS Required
