A day in the life…
Wondering what a day in the life of Lead Histotechnologist at The Iowa Clinic might look like?
  • Oversee the daily workflow and operations of the histology laboratory to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Perform advanced histological techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, special staining, special staining, Immunohistochemistry and grossing.
  • Lead, train, and mentor a team of histotechnologists and support staff.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide feedback, coaching and professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure laboratory operations comply with regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, OSHA and state-specific regulations).
  • Act as the primary liaison between the histology lab and pathologists, clinicians, and other departments.
  • Coordinate special requests and prioritize workloads based on clinical needs and deadlines.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance workflows, optimize processes, and implement new technologies or techniques.
This job might be for you if…
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree that includes 30 semester hours of chemistry and biology (must include credit hours in both) or an associate degree that includes 12 semester hours of chemistry and biology (must include credit hours in both)
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a histotechnologist, including advanced histology techniques.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
Required Licenses
  • Certification as Histotechnologist or Histotechnician (ASCP [HT] or ASCP [HTL])
