Conveniently located near I-80 in Waukee, this state-of-the-art, 21,000 sq. ft. ASC will offer same-day joint replacement, orthopedic, sports medicine, foot and ankle, pain management surgery and a cardiac catheterization lab in an out-patient setting. A Day in the Life of Ambulatory Surgery RN…

The Pre/Post Op RN will be responsible for preforming duties related to direct patient care. The role will be assessing, monitoring, recovering, and providing professional nursing services for patients of assigned physician(s) following established nursing practice standards.  The position will provide professional nursing support in the ambulatory surgery center by assisting physicians with procedures, patient assessment, transfers, and patient education. 

 Essential Functions:

·       Delivers patient care consistent with established professional nursing standards and surgery center policies and practices.

·       Gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative and post-operative care while maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters and keeping patient flow in mind.

Provides discharge instructions to patients including, but not limited to, diet, activity, medication reconciliation, and obtaining a post-operative appointment, if needed.

Assures patient received copy of discharge instructions. 

Minimum Requirements:

·       Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

·       Current RN license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa.

·       BLS Certifications (American Heart Association)

·       Two years nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting

·       Specialty specific and ambulatory surgery experience is preferred.

·       Advanced knowledge in critical care practice
