Job Title: Assistant Controller New Mexico
Reports To: Division Controller
Location: Carlsbad, NM or Denver, CO

OVERVIEW

The Assistant Controller helps lead collaboration of the monthly and quarterly accounting operations for our facilities in New Mexico, including internal reporting, month-end close, cost accounting, and fixed assets.  The Assistant Controller works closely with the operations personnel, including the plant superintendents, purchasing managers, project managers, customer service, and other on-site employees.   
 
JOB DUTIES
  • Help manage the monthly close process, including review of staff accountant work, approval of journal entries, and review of monthly financial reports. 
  • Assist in preparation and review of monthly accruals for expenses and capital projects. 
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for review by senior management and cost center managers. 
  • Collaboration with Operations and Leadership in preparation of operating forecasts and annual budgets including revenue, expenses, and capital spending. 
  • Prepare schedules and other PBC requests for internal and external auditors. 
  • Perform variance analysis on operating results, including actual to budget, actual to forecast, and actual to prior periods. 
  • Assist in the review of monthly royalty payments. 
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, assist in the review of reconciliations prepared by staff accountants. 
  • Assist in the tracking and review of costs for capitalization or expense, and determination of when assets are ready to be placed in service. 
  • Assist with supervision and development of the Accounts Payable department, including the review of weekly payments and approval of invoices. 
  • Assist in quarterly reporting as needed. 
  • Develop Accounting staff to enhance skills related to operations and reporting requirements. 
  • Review and propose continuous improvement initiatives for the Accounting department. 
  • May require up to 25% travel to Carlsbad, NM. 
  • Other tasks as assigned.

     
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • B.S. in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.  CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Experience using ERP systems
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including, but not limited to: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, etc.

SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
9/80 schedule: Monday – Thursday, 9-hour workdays, Fridays worked, 8-hour workday, with every other Friday off. Schedule subject to change.
  • Indoor, temperature-controlled office environment
  • Typical noise levels include moderate noises (business office with computers, printers, etc.)
  • Employees are required to wear safety attire and personal protective equipment (PPE) when applicable

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Job conditions require sitting over 2/3 of work time, and hearing over 2/3 of work time. Will be standing, walking, using hands, reaching with hands, climbing and stooping under 1/3 of the time. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. – lifting will be required up to 1/3 of the work time. Under 1/3 of the work time, the environment may consist of moving mechanical parts and high/precarious places. Typical noise levels include moderate noises (ex: business office with computers, printers, etc.)
 
A pre-placement physical and hair follicle drug test will be required for anyone selected for this opportunity. Placement into the position will not be made until the results are received and cleared by Intrepid.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS  
  
The targeted salary range for this position is $110K to $140K annually. Salary commensurate with experience and skill set.
