POSITION SUMMARY
The Pit Operator is responsible for watching and maintaining proper flows, levels, densities, and distribution of solids and brines. The Pit Operator will make regular rounds checking pumps, agitators, crushers, and the overall running of the Pit area. The Pit Operator will work with the Scraper Operator to ensure the proper density in the pit at all times. The Pit Operator will maintain the roadways in and out of the ponds and around the pits.  
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Operate heavy equipment (Loader, Scraper, Grader, Forklift)
  • Maintain pit level and density
  • Monitor HMI screens to ensure pumps and motors are operating within the proper parameters
  • Keep roadways smooth and serviceable in and around pond area
  • Help the scraper operator haul loads during breaks, lunches, or during long hauls
  • Inspection of pond liners for tears or rips on a daily basis
  • Inspection equipment daily before use and report any deficiencies 
  • Maintain accurate records of appropriate readings
  • Preform pond repair and maintenance as needed
  • Have the capacity to provide and follow instructions
  • Keep work area clean and orderly
  • Work with maintenance crew to make repairs during summer shutdown
  • Observe and abide by all OSHA and Intrepid’s safety rules and policies
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school graduate
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • OSHA 10-hour safety training
  • 1 year experience in an industrial/mining setting
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to use a computer to input readings, results, and email reports
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to problem solve, learn processes quickly, and stay calm in a stressful environment
  • Ability to read and understand the GPS system
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a non-temperature-controlled environment. The employee:
  • Is regularly required to lift heavy objects (50lbs <=) and work in confined spaces
  • May have to work at heights in a non-temperature-controlled environment and unpredictable weather conditions
  • Is regularly exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels
  • Is required to always wear safety attire and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Will frequently be standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching and grasping
  • Must be able to climb stairs and/or ladders, work at heights on occasion, and perceive color differences
SCHEDULE
  • A 40 hour a week work schedule with rotating shifts will be required with callouts and overtime as part of the job
