POSITION SUMMARY

The Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality (EHSQ) Technician supports environmental compliance, workplace safety, laboratory, and quality activities at a mining and processing operation. Under the direction of EHSQ professionals, this entry-level role performs routine inspections, sampling, testing, documentation, and data entry while learning company procedures and site operations.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•  Conduct routine inspections of work areas, equipment, environmental controls, and operational activities using established checklists and procedures.
• Complete EHSQ observations and audits; document hazards, at-risk conditions, positive work practices, and other findings.
• Promptly communicate significant concerns to the appropriate supervisor or EHSQ team member.
• Collect environmental, process, product, and quality samples in accordance with approved plans, procedures, and quality practices.
• Perform routine laboratory tasks, including sample preparation, sample login, basic instrument checks, testing, and result reporting.
• Enter, verify, organize, and maintain EHSQ data, inspection records, laboratory records, training records, permits, photographs, and other controlled documents.
• Support environmental permitting and compliance activities by gathering information, tracking deadlines, organizing records, and assisting with reports or applications.
• Assist with incident, near-miss, environmental event, and quality nonconformance investigations by collecting facts, photographs, records, samples, and witness information as directed.
• Help document, track, verify, and close corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain, clean, inspect, and help calibrate assigned field and laboratory equipment; report damaged, missing, or out-of-service equipment.
• Support contractor, visitor, and new-hire orientations by preparing materials, administering required documentation, and assisting with site-level presentations.
• Support EHSQ communications, meetings, toolbox talks, flash alerts, training materials, and continuous improvement activities.
• Prepare clear, accurate, and timely inspection notes, test results, summaries, and routine reports.
• Follow all required safety procedures, including hazard assessments, personal protective equipment requirements, traffic rules, and applicable energy-control or access restrictions.
• Communicate professionally with Operations, Maintenance, Laboratory, Environmental, Safety, Quality, contractors, and other departments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving requirements.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow written procedures, safety rules, sampling instructions, and routine technical documents.
• Basic math, computer, data entry, and recordkeeping skills.Other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Coursework, technical training, or education in environmental science, occupational safety, chemistry, laboratory science, quality, or a related field.
• Prior EHSQ, laboratory, industrial, mining, manufacturing, or field experience.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Ability to learn and use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and other company systems.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accurate, complete, and timely documentation.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in person, by radio, by telephone, and in writing.
• Ability to work independently after training and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team.
• Ability to manage routine assignments, follow priorities, and ask for assistance when needed.

• Ability to complete required site-specific safety, environmental, feed safety, and quality training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT 

This position works in a combination of office, laboratory, processing, surface mining, and field environments. Work may occur near mobile equipment, machinery, process areas, sampling locations, and other controlled industrial hazards. The employee must comply with all site access requirements, safe work practices, and instructions. The regular schedule will be day shift but may occasionally include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, travel between facilities, or emergency support.

The employee: 

• Is regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods during a work shift in a mining and industrial environment.
• Is regularly required to move safely over uneven, wet, dusty, rocky, or slippery surfaces and through active operating areas.
• Is regularly required to use hands, reach, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, and occasionally use ladders.
• Is frequently required to wear required personal protective equipment, which may include a hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, respiratory protection, high-visibility clothing, and safety footwear.
• Is regularly required to collect, carry, and transport samples, supplies, and field equipment, including lifting up to 50 pounds as required.
• Is regularly required to perform duties indoors and outdoors and tolerate exposure to weather, dust, noise, vibration, moving equipment, and temperature extremes.
