Manager, Quality Assurance
POSITION SUMMARY
 
The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager will oversee the activity of the quality assurance department and staff, developing, implementing, and maintaining a system of quality controls for production and product handling.  This is a corporate position overseeing 3 sites - 1 in NM and 2 in UT. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance in the establishment of product quality standards, quality assurance (QA) programs and quality control (QC) procedures.
  • Lead efforts to maintain customer satisfaction and address customer product quality concerns and corrective actions in coordination with Operations, IPI Sales and IPI Customer Service personnel.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to Operations in determining and implementing best practice quality controls for production, product handling and to help ensure compliance with product specifications.
  • Provide guidance and conduct internal audits on critical QA controls to ensure compliance with Safe Feed Safe Food and OMRI requirements and maintenance of certifications.
  • Assist IPI Sales and IPNM Operations with matching product type and quality with customer needs and expectations.
  • Lead the assessment of the effectiveness of established QA programs and systems, identify weaknesses, and assist the business functions in developing and documenting viable solutions and procedures.
  • Drives periodic reviews of QA practices in critical Intrepid functional areas; monitor progress in addressing identified risk, compliance, and control weaknesses.
  • Develop presentations to senior management to communicate the state of Quality Assurance programs at Intrepid.
  • Daily interaction with all functional headquarters and department leaders, field leadership and senior management. Maintains regular interaction with personnel involved in safety functions.
  • Forecast necessary funds for staffing, materials and supplies, and capital improvement projects. Submit budget recommendations and justifications; monitor and control expenditures.
  • Interacts closely with Intrepid senior managers, legal and other control functions to architect thoughtful QA practices, ensuring that risks and interdependencies affecting Intrepid are identified, measured and managed in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date QA files, records, and documentation.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
  
  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience supervising technical and QA personnel in an industrial environment.
  • Expert level understanding of federal and state regulations affecting Company.

  • Experience working with sales, customer service and directly with customers is highly desired
  • Knowledge of potash products and fertilizer production, sales and product usage desired.
  • Strong understanding of animal feed regulatory environment.
  • Previous experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement programs in a manufacturing or minerals processing environment is an asset.
  • Must be able to identify, prioritize and address multiple issues/tasks simultaneously; able to quickly respond to shifts in priority.
  • Proficient in a variety of software applications (Word, Excel, Access, Graphics, Outlook).
  • Acts with ethics and integrity to protect assets of the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation, facilitation and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and make critical decisions.
  • Ability to accept accountability, demonstrate initiative, and lead by example in teamwork, cross functional cooperation, information sharing.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS 
 
Work is typically performed in potentially hazardous and/or significantly unpleasant work environment conditions, underground mining and surface industrial processing facilities. The noise level in the work environment is usually quite loud. Incumbents must be able to perform work that requires typing, reading, communicating, sitting for prolonged periods of time, standing, and walking.  
 
The employee: 
  • Is regularly required to use hands to type, touch, handle, or feel 
  • Is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms 
  • Ability to climb and descend vertical ladders and stairs
  • Frequently lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds
 
In the event that the incumbent visits an operations worksite, personal protective equipment including but not limited to head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame-resistant clothing may be required.
 
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS 
 
Targeted salary range for this position is $140K to $160K annually. Salary commensurate with experience and skill set.
