Reports To: Environmental Director
Location: Utah - Ability to travel up to 50% to Moab, UT and Wendover, UT
OVERVIEW
The Environmental Specialist works with the Environmental Director and operations management to develop and execute permitting strategies to support Intrepid's Utah operations. The incumbent will work under general guidance from the Environmental Director and coordinate technical input from operations and outside consultants to assure environmental compliance across all environmental media. Must be able to coordinate among technical, legal, regulatory and operational personnel at all levels in the organization. The skills required for this position include but are not limited to: leadership, analytical thinking and problem-solving, and attention to detail. The position will be responsible for operating sites in Moab and Wendover. Will perform air, water, and waste compliance monitoring and inspection.

JOB DUTIES
- Communicate effectively with regulatory agencies at the federal and state level.
- Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with regulatory agencies.
- Work with operations and management personnel to understand operating needs and how that intersects with regulatory requirements.
- Collect and compile all relevant environmental data, statistics and information.
- Understand all permits and reporting requirements.
- Meet compliance deadlines with accurate and complete information.
- Develop and execute strategies for addressing emerging environmental compliance issues.
- Supervise and coordinate contractors performing field work and agency reports.
- Manage technical contracts.
- Assist operations with implementation of best practice operational controls for environmental compliance.
- Assist with preparation and review of permit documents.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in earth science, engineering, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental compliance and permitting with state and federal agencies.
- Proficient in reading, analyzing and interpreting scientific data and information.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, including: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel required.
- Valid driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in a mining and/or heavy manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of NEPA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and federal land management agency regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position is primarily office based with some field time, including time in a heavy industrial environment. Standing, walking, using hands, reaching with hands, climbing and stooping depending on the task. Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. Typical noise levels vary from low to high (ex: business office, industrial and construction sites)
The successful candidate will be required to pass a pre-placement physical and drug test. Placement into the position will not be made until the results are received and cleared by Intrepid.
