SEO Specialist (Temporary Contractor)

Martindale-Avvo is looking for a full time Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Specialist to join our New Providence, NJ team! The SEO Specialist’s primary goal will be to maximize the volume of inbound organic traffic for our portfolio of law firm clients.  The SEO Specialist is responsible for setting the strategy for new campaigns, adjusting strategy for optimal performance for our existing clients, as well as acting as the primary point of contact for client SEO questions and website inquiries. The SEO Specialist will make strategic decisions tied to all search-related tasks in the realm of local, onsite and offsite optimization. This is a client-facing role that includes client calls and supporting sales as the subject matter expert (SME) for SEO.  The Specialist will be responsible for reporting and analysis and providing action plans in an effort to provide tangible evidence of the value of SEO to the client and support sales in retaining our customers. 


  • Complete SEO tasks within committed service level agreement.
  • Support sales teams and serve as the SEO client interface, by being the SME on SEO related questions and provide performance updates to the client.
  • Develop the SEO strategy for clients, using industry and departmental best practices.
  • This includes specific content recommendations, local business listings optimization and routine on and offsite audits.
  • Research and complete competitive analysis to outline an onsite SEO strategy that outlines a solid sitemap including pages and relevant topics that will be critical for a solid foundation for a strong SEO campaign.
  • Create site architecture and sitemap for clients’ websites, working closely with internal project managers and writers.
  • Follow the campaign through its life cycle and complete audits and on and off-site fixes in order to keep the campaign performing at or above goals.
  • Lead conversations and give presentations in our SEO team knowledge shares on hot topics in the industry to continue to invest in their personal growth as well as the departments.
  • Communicating results and complex concepts in simple language to clients who may not have an in-depth knowledge of search and how it works.


  • Experience managing and communicating with demanding clients.
  • Highly organized, proactive with a proven track record of delivering results that drive organic search traffic growth.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of website best practices and factors which influence rankings and indexation within search engines including:
    • Local
    • Onsite
    • Off Site SEO
  • Knowledge of all onsite fundamentals such as: 
    • Titles and Metas
    • Sitemaps
    • URL Structure
    • Index Coverage
    • Crawl Budget
    • Content
    • Internal Links
    • Page Speed
    • Canonicals
    • Pagination
    • Backlinks
  • Proficient with the following tools or similar:
    • Google Data Studio
    • Google Analytics
    • Google Search Console
    • Site Crawler tools such as Screaming Frog or Xenu LinkSleuth
    • Page Speed Testing Tools such as Page Speed Insights
    • Keyword Research Tools such as SEMRush
    • Project Management Tools
    • Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs/Sheets
  • Solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with website and conversion data and fluent with relevant website KPIs
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility and ability to shift priorities easily.
  • Strong analytic skills to assess shifts in performance and adjust campaigns quickly to stay on top of the search engines
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to dig extensively into metrics and analytics.
  • Experience identifying trends, successes and opportunities for improved organic traffic
  • Ability to identify and recommend solutions to technical hurdles, such as:

- Google Search Console diagnostic issues, server and crawl errors;

- Troubleshooting loss of rankings, traffic and conversions

- Google Business Profile suspensions and issues;

- Schema errors

- Redirects and broken links

- Website performance and page speed

  • Google Analytics certification is a plus.
