Manager of Software Engineering

As Manager of Software Engineering, you will be leading a talented group of engineers. You will work closely with Product Management to make sure that your teams’ work is creating raving fans. You will be responsible for mentoring your engineers; motivating them and helping them grow. You will need to be an excellent collaborator and communicator.

Here's more of what you'll get to do:

  • Lead a team of 4-6 engineers, or more, including software developers, QA analysts, and front-end designers. You are also responsible for growing the skills of the team, both through ongoing skills development as well as recruiting when necessary.
  • Work closely with product management to establish priorities and release schedules. You are expected to create a team that is deadline driven without abandoning quality and the craft of software engineering.
  • Provide technical direction and project leadership for the team as well as for other business units.
  • Stay current with technology, whether it is blogs, conventions, training sessions, books, etc. You will be expected to lead your team by example (though hands on coding is not a core requirement).
  • Be an evangelist for software quality, and for standard operating procedures that will keep us in compliance with industry regulations and global best practices.
  • Have a working knowledge of data center infrastructure, which will be required during troubleshooting scenarios, as well as when planning out software design.
  • Be able to build a project plan including cost/risk analysis, team selection, and milestone planning.
  • Seek out the best tools for the job. While .Net is our predominant language, we also use PHP, JavaScript, Typescript, etc.  We also use ElasticSearch, Redis, React, Vue.js, Node.js, etc.  We believe in choosing the right tool for the job, but not a different tool for every job.
  • Ensure the team is on time, on budget, and producing excellent results.
You'll thrive in this role if you have:

  • Strong interpersonal & leadership skills as well as the ability to motivate others.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience, with 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • Excellent coding, design and architecture skills.
  • Having programmed in .Net will help you get going faster, but your primary languages aren’t as important as being a great leader.
  • SQL proficiency, particularly with Microsoft SQL Server is a plus
  • BA/BS or above from a Computer Science program preferred
