About the Job
We are currently seeking a mid-level environmental data analyst to support our Data Management and Analysis Practice. The position will support multiple clients and projects, with the common theme of providing data analysis and custom web application development using CI/CD workflows in a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from marine resources and modeling to toxicology and contaminant studies. Primarily, you will work on programming discrete modules within web applications being built in R/Shiny. However, the day-to-day work can vary. One day you may be leading a task to discover, access, and clean historical datasets. Another day you may be performing multivariate statistical analyses to differentiate sources of contamination. Responsibilities
As a Project Scientist/Engineer – Environmental Data Analyst, your job functions will include, but not be limited to:
- Programming modules within web applications using R/Shiny, with tasks ranging from data wrangling to modeling and statistics in addition to interactive data visualization and mapping in a {golem} framework
- Implement changes to web applications in R/Shiny as a result of stakeholder feedback
- Provide quality control review on existing applications and debug issues in R/Shiny
- Maintain existing applications in R/Shiny
- Programming data pre-processing steps for web applications, which could include data wrangling, statistical analyses, and/or model runs either in R or Python
- Interaction with a PostgreSQL database to supply data to web applications
- Be an exemplary communicator and listener to key stakeholders
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a B.S. or M.S. degree in environmental science or engineering, applied mathematics, statistics, or related technical field. Candidates with a B.S. or M.S. degree from another quantitative field and a demonstrated interest in environmental applications will be considered.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 3+ years of experience working in a data analysis role or an educational equivalent (i.e. a graduate degree requiring the use of R/Shiny), with demonstrated experience using R statistical programming language. Similar experience in Python is a plus, but R is required.
- 1+ years of demonstrated experience developing, deploying, and maintaining web applications using R Shiny
- Experience customizing R Shiny applications using JavaScript, CSS, and/or HTML
- Proficiency with code versioning tools, such as Git/GitHub
- Strong background in applied statistics
- Deep understanding and experience with the complete environmental data life cycle from field sampling to written synthesis
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- A desire to grow both intellectually and professionally
- Possess strong organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers
- Strong communication skills and integrity
Annual Salary Range: $75,000 - $100,000
An employee’s total compensation package includes annual salary, company-subsidized (employee and family) medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) participation with a company-match of 1% to 4% of annual compensation, company-paid life and short- and long-term disability, paid sick leave (80 hours per year), paid vacation (12 days), paid holidays (9 days per year), and the potential for an annual discretionary bonus based on company performance. Paid time off will be pro-rated to reflect part-time scheduled hours, if applicable.
