About You 

You are an experienced professional in the environmental regulatory and compliance field with an advanced scientific degree. You have a background in a field of biology (e.g., Botany, Fisheries, or Wildlife Biology) with experience in California. You are a strategic thinker who thrives on the challenges of complex, interdisciplinary regulatory matters. You have working knowledge and experience with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), federal and state Endangered Species Acts, Clean Water Act, and other relevant environmental laws. You have an interest, or direct experience, identifying project commensurate compensatory mitigation efforts and wish to learn more about mitigation banking and other opportunities to conserve critical lands.

About the Job 

We are currently seeking a senior-level scientist for our newly developing Permitting and Planning practice that will provide project management oversite in our San Francisco Bay Area offices. The position will support multiple clients and on a wide variety of projects involving permitting and planning, securing compensatory mitigation, and compliance. This position will have the responsibility of growing a portfolio of work and securing new clients. 

This opportunity will be exciting for someone who has interest in continuing, and growing, a project permitting career and applying field expertise to responsible project authorizations. You will have the opportunity to draw on the diverse expertise of the larger Integral team to grow your technical expertise, and occasionally work beyond the Bay Area and California. You will oversee a team responsible for delivering assignments within budget and on schedule. You will have the responsibility of ensuring preparation and management of a portfolio of projects with environmental regulatory authorizations.  You will develop and maintain your existing professional relationships with the regulatory community. 

The candidate hired for this role will be expected to be onsite at various locations throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area for training, to conduct project site visits and for other related project requirements.  This position may require occasional travel. 

Responsibilities 

As a Senior Scientist or Consultant in our Permitting and Planning practice, your job functions will include, but not be limited to: 

  • Leading a team of professionals
  • Preparing complex project descriptions based on client-provided engineering drawings
  • Preparing a strategic project-specific permitting plan and associated schedule
  • Preparing a permitting-specific project plan
  • Preparing project application packages in collaboration with others
  • Facilitate agency negotiation of permit conditions
  • Oversee permit compliance as projects enter the construction phase
  • Ensure production of high-quality deliverables consistent with Integral Quality Assurance practices

Qualifications 

Candidates should hold an advanced degree in biology, chemistry, environmental health, or similar field. 

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • 5+ years of experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A desire to grow both intellectually and professionally
  • Possess strong organizational abilities
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers

Annual Salary Range: $85,000 - $130,000 

An employee’s total compensation package includes annual salary, company-subsidized (employee and family) medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) participation with a company-match of 1% to 4% of annual compensation, company-paid life and short- and long-term disability, paid sick leave (80 hours per year), paid vacation (determined by title at hire), paid holidays (9 days per year), and the potential for an annual discretionary bonus based on company performance. Paid time off will be pro-rated to reflect part-time scheduled hours, if applicable.
