About the Principal Mechanical Engineer Opportunity

Optikos, the largest independent optical engineering group in the world, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Wakefield, MA.  The Principal Mechanical Engineer will take on a leadership role in the development of new and cutting-edge products in optical design services and system development and will be instrumental in helping to identify creative solutions to some of the most challenging optical problems for clients in the life sciences, aerospace and defense, industrial, automotive and consumer markets.  With dozens of patents, Optikos knows how to design products, assemblies and instruments that redefine the state of the art. Principal Mechanical Engineer Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering; graduate degree preferred
  • 15+ years of proven expertise and innovative work designing optomechanical assemblies and opto-mechatronics; project management experience a plus
  • Optomechanical system architect with current experience in mechanical design and product development
  • Experience with FEA; primarily static, modal, and thermal
  • History of precision mechanical system development and a proven track record of design, analysis, and product realization
  • Experience designing systems incorporating some or all of the following: high precision motorized mechanisms, lens and mirror mounts (large and small), flexures and kinematic mounts, metal castings, plastic moldings, additive manufacturing, design for manufacture, production systems and automated material handling
  • Highly motivated with the ability to innovate and apply new technologies or existing art in new ways to solve challenging mechanical design problems
  • Expertise in the use of SolidWorks or similar CAD software
  • U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency (“Green Card” holder) is required
