Systems Engineer IV
Description
Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Systems Engineer to develop and support the technology and product development efforts of Inogen. The Systems Engineer will evaluate the feasibility and opportunity of new products or improvements in quality, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and testing to existing product lines via development, implementation, integration and testing of subcomponents and algorithms as well as integrated hardware and software systems, including analyzing and resolving production line and field issues. The Systems Engineer is also responsible for developing, operating, and maintaining Inogen's R&D laboratory space, including operating laboratory equipment and researching, procuring, and deploying equipment as needed. The Systems Engineer is also responsible for evaluating new technologies and working with development partners to integrate new technologies into Inogen Products or assisting partners to integrate Inogen's technologies into their products. The Systems Engineer should additionally contribute to Inogen's Intellectual Property Portfolio.
Responsibilities (Specific tasks, duties, essential functions of the job)
Systems Engineer I
- Analytically design and evaluate new product concepts and technology proof of concepts
- Research and maintain an understanding of current technology trends as they may apply to Inogen product opportunities
- Support the design and manufacture of Inogen products
- Work with component suppliers, other members of the R&D team, and other groups within the organization to create highly reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective products.
- Actively pursue the generation and protection of intellectual property to achieve Inogen's corporate goals.
- Develop and refine Inogen's R&D capabilities to include enable rapid and efficient development, evaluation, and test of concepts and product opportunities.
- The Systems Engineer will keep detailed records of test set-ups and test records for the design history files and projects for reference by other engineers for equipment usage.
- Prepare and present reports and demonstrations of project work
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Assist with any other duties as assigned.
Systems Engineer II
In addition to items listed for Systems Engineer I a Systems Engineer II may also be responsible for the following.
- Directed design of components and fixtures, with a single focused area of responsibility. Ability to plan, execute, and document system level testing of designed components and fixtures independently.
Systems Engineer III
In addition to items listed for Systems Engineer II a Systems Engineer III may also be responsible for the following.
- Ability to create and run analytical simulations and models of complex processes and systems.
- Autonomous design of components and fixtures from concept through implementation. Works cross-functionally across organization to drive projects to completion. Plans, executes, and documents system level testing of designed components and fixtures independently.
Systems Engineer IV
In addition to items listed for Systems Engineer III a Systems Engineer IV may also be responsible for the following.
- Manages design changes at system level
- Independent contributor to product and technology innovations

- Experience with National Instruments LabView.
- Experience with Matlab.
- Experience with 3D modeling.
- Knowledge and ability to write and debug embedded software
- Experience with common fabrication and prototyping equipment.
- Highly motivated and able to act as a key part of the R&D team.
- Attention to detail and accurate and complete documentation.
- Desire and ability to perform hands-on prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to evaluate concepts and opportunities from idea through prototype and feasibility analysis.
