Bilingual Customs Specialist

As the Bilingual Customs Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting imports & exports in the North America region, with the majority of transactions between Europe, USA, Mexico, and Canada. This position will be located in either Houston, TX, or Waukesha, WI. The role reports to the Service Execution Leader in North America, with functional support out of Europe.

In this position, you will be responsible for

  • Ensuring flawless and compliant material inbound and outbound flow for all INNIO North America business units
  • Supporting the development, implementation and management of effective Trade Compliance Customs and Export & Import program for our North America sites
  • Developing & maintaining KPI control metrics for outsourced processes and performance reviews for third party service providers
  • Assisting with Trade Compliance investigations, risk mitigation, audits and self-assessments
  • Maintaining excellent partnership with Finance, Procurement, Logistics & Transportation teams within the organization to support the day to day operations while ensuring compliance
  • Item activation process and enabling the engineering team to follow WTO rules and regulations in a remote environment, including technical support for HTS classification as well as product classification
  • Monitoring all changes in customs/trade laws, new world Customs Organization opinions and new/emerging free trade agreements to identify risks and opportunities for the business
  • Serving as main contact point for company personnel, including senior company leaders (e.g., Chief Compliance Officer, Regional Heads of Sales), on export & import controls issues
  • Managing and continually enhancing export & import controls clearance processes and provide advice to staff
  • Researching, interpreting, and applying complex U.S. and non-U.S. government export/import laws regulations
  • Working with management to develop long-term strategies to facilitate business in accordance with a constantly evolving trade and regulatory landscape; provides timely risk assessments
  • Managing the execution of day to day operational tasks to support business operations

  • Our legal obligations require you to act as our customs compliance gatekeeper, ensuring WTO ruling adherence as well as data quality correctness, while our operations need your support to generate flawless customs procedures to avoid production downtimes

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics/engineering/related law or relevant work experience 
  • Effective problem-solving skills and good analytical, communication and facilitating skills
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
  • Experience assessing export and import compliance processes, procedures, and resources; providing recommendations; and developing policies and procedures General knowledge of US, Mexico & Canada foreign import control governmental agencies
  • Experience with software Enovia, Smarteam / Windchill, Oracle, Excel etc. is a plus
  • Solid working knowledge of US, MX, CA Customs regulations, import/export requirements, and international documentation
  • Import/Export documentation knowledge, including protests, Disclosures, Rulings, Reconciliation
