The Role

The Head of Government Affairs position owns government affairs and trade associations work within INNIO’s Jenbacher Communications department and is responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing the government affairs strategy for the INNIO Jenbacher brand.

The role leads government affairs and drives it with a particular focus on EU and Germany government and political affairs. This includes collaboration with government officials, regulatory bodies and associations, to monitor

relevant legislation and advocate for the organization's interests. The role reports to the Vice President Communications.

In particular, the role will hold the following essential responsibilities:

  • Owns government affairs strategy and cross-functional implementation
  • Develops advocacy strategies on regulatory policies and leads engagement with trade associations, policymakers, regulators and other external stakeholders to influence and achieve desired outcomes
  • Monitors relevant regulatory, policy and political developments and advise senior executives on implications
  • Builds and maintains relationships with external stakeholders, including with policymakers, regulators as well as trade and industry bodies
  • Pro-actively manages association memberships and participates in association forums
  • Develops position papers and other relevant materials on policies and regulation by working cross-functionally, ensuring consistent interpretation and execution aligned with business objectives
  • Works closely with all other involved functions like Product, Sales, Legal, etc. to drive one government affairs strategy that is executed by all functions

and engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders. Successful candidates demonstrate the ability to develop

strategic approaches to Government Affairs combined with strong influencing as well as networking skills to ensure an impactful positioning and help to drive commercial outcome. In terms of the general qualifications and competencies required for the position, we would highlight the following:

  • Government affairs or communications role with relevant professional experience, preferably in a corporate or governmental/policy environment
  • Experience in navigating public policy and government relations
  • Knowledge of relevant industry trends, regulations, and best practices in the energy sector
  • Success in managing complex public affairs campaigns in a fully compliant manner is an advantage
  • people focus, influencing and leadership skills, ideally a proven track record of successfully managing and coordinating diverse, multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.

More particularly, successful candidates will display

  • Knowledge of the power generation market, technology and its supporting regulations for applications of cogeneration, district heating or biogas
  • profound knowledge of EU and German energy and climate policy
  • Strong problem solving and influencing skills
  • Experience in project management as well as the ability to interact smoothly at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, team player mentality and can-do attitude.

It goes without saying that the Head of /Director Government Affairs & Policies role requires business fluent German and English skills as well as a willingness and the ability to travel. A specific location is not required but strong presence in Berlin or Brussels and regular attendance at the INNIO headquarters in Jenbach, Austria, is expected.
