Application Engineer - Concur & Basware
Description
The Basware & Concur Application Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end management, enhancement, and operational stability of the company’s global Travel & Expense (Concur) and Invoice-processing / Payables (Basware) platforms. This role ensures that both applications operate efficiently, support evolving business needs, and deliver optimal user experience.
This position combines application ownership, operational support, and continuous improvement, working across multiple functions including Finance, Procurement, HR, IT, and external system providers. The role oversees incident and service request handling within agreed SLAs, manages vendor coordination, and drives platform improvement initiatives — such as onboarding new legal entities, optimizing system configurations, and refining end-to-end workflows.
The Application Engineer collaborates with business and technical stakeholders globally to enhance processes, strengthen governance and compliance, and ensure that both Concur and Basware support the organization’s digital transformation journey.

Your Tasks:
Application & Operational Ownership
- Act as the primary point of contact for all Concur and Basware operational topics, ensuring timely resolution of incidents, issues, and service requests within defined SLAs.
- Manage relationships with external vendors (Concur, Basware, implementation partners) and internal support teams to ensure consistent service quality and platform performance.
- Monitor platform stability, integrations, data flows, and user experience; proactively identify areas for improvement.
Project & Change Delivery
- Lead and deliver enhancement projects for both platforms — including onboarding new legal entities, configuring new modules, enabling integrations, and implementing workflow/process optimization initiatives.
- Translate business requirements into functional and technical specifications and oversee the end-to-end change management lifecycle (design, configuration, testing, deployment, documentation).
- Coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT), training, and communication of new features or system changes.
Process Optimization & Governance
- Ensure configurations align with internal policies, approval structures, compliance, and audit requirements.
- Drive standardization and automation across both platforms to improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
Business Partnering & Continuous Improvement
- Act as a subject matter expert on Concur and Basware capabilities, advising on system best practices and improvement opportunities.
- Produce dashboards or reports that provide insights on usage, compliance, spending, and process bottlenecks
Your profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Finance, Procurement, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience managing or supporting SAP Concur and/or Basware in a regional or global environment.
- Proven track record in project management, system implementation, or process optimization.
- Solid understanding of Travel & Expense (Concur) and/or Procure-to-Pay (Basware) processes and best practices.
- Experience coordinating with vendors and internal cross-functional teams in an international context.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in English; German is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with global system rollouts or onboarding of new legal entities.
- Project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile) is an advantage.
- Strong customer orientation with a focus on improving end-user experience.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple initiatives, and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and documentation skills.
