Position Overview:

 

The Design Engineer – Order Engineering – Mechanical position supports the INNIO Order Engineering team in a design capacity for reciprocating engines and packaged generator sets. This position will work in global order engineering teams to deliver product solutions for our customers by completing custom design requests for new unit sales to support customer solutions for installed units. In this position, you will utilize your skills in engineering design, CAD, BOM creation, project management and INNIO's quality system to deliver customer solutions.

 

Essential Responsibilities 

  • Create and modify parametric 3D models and drawings throughout all stages of the design and development process to communicate component design intent using CREO.
  • Produce 2D drawings which include the application of dimension techniques while considering manufacturability and design intent.
  • Create and release complete technical data packages as required for production of new designs. 
  • Complete all required business system transactions associated with Engineering Change releases as required.
  • Create and release customer documentation packages to provide instruction for Installation, Operation, and Maintenance.
  • Work with customers, applications, & Product Line Management to identify custom order requirements, provide engineering data for quotes, create project timelines and complete custom sales order design activities. Use expertise in design/reciprocating engines/gensets to help resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Participate in project teams as the mechanical Order Engineering resource and complete all design tasks required to release the product to schedule.
  • Participate in / lead technical design reviews.
  • Provide technical support to other functional areas as required.

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science from an accredited Technical College or University is required along with a minimum of 2.5 years of experience in a design role.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.

 

Desired Characteristics      

  • Demonstrated proficiency utilizing mechanical design skills to analyze technical requirements and apply appropriate skill set to design and detail complex components and assemblies within CREO, CATIA or other similar solid modeling CAD software.
  • Industrial engine, generator set, or switchgear design background with experience designing large castings, forgings, fabrications, sheet metal components, piping, electrical harnesses, and electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency in managing technical and organizational assignments.

Ability to perform engineering calculations and apply GD&T per ASME Y-14.5M

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Organizational skills required to effectively handle multiple tasks
  • Communication & Interpersonal skills required to function effectively with engineering and inter-department team.
  • Oracle/SAP Business system experience.
  • Experience with Pro/Intralink or PDMLINK/Windchill or other CAD file management system.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Must embrace continuous improvement and have a strong desire to learn.
  • Experience designing circuit schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Demonstrated proficiency utilizing design skills to analyze technical requirements and applying appropriate skill set to design and detail system schematics within AutoCAD, EPLAN, or other similar 2D CAD software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing, quality, and assembly processes.
  • Experience procuring prototype hardware for design verification, fit-up & product release.
  • Experience performing engineering studies & calculations within the scope of assigned work.
  • Experience developing technical requirements and quality standards while working closely with cross-functional personnel.
  • Advancing engineering initiatives which include product manufacturing information (PMI), drawing templates, part families, drawing automation, drawing elimination, checking automation, customer documentation automation, etc.
  • Demonstrated professional characteristics necessary for working in and leading global teams such as task definition, team building, mentoring, and training both local and remote colleagues, collaborative interpersonal skills, and effective communication.
