Role and Responsibilities:

  • This role provides SolarWinds customers, sales staff and channel partners with technical product advice during pre-sales discussions
  • Performs detailed online demonstrations during which they must effectively promote product features, answer audience questions and clearly ascertain the customer’s needs and requirements
  • The Sales Engineer must demonstrate expert knowledge of the company’s products and will be required to assist customers wherever necessary during their product evaluations. This will include responding to technical queries via email, remote assistance, troubleshooting and solving moderately complex pre-sales support problems
  • Travel to customer sites as required to fulfil (but not limited to) the following tasks - software installation, assist in issue resolution, assist with upgrades, perform assessments, perform site & system audits etc
  • Create high/low level design documentation to existing and potential customers
  • Provide pre & post-sales technical support to end customers via telephone and remote assistance solutions
  • Log all job activity within company work order system

 Essential Skills Requirements & Education:

  • Diploma and above with IT related cert
  • Qualified applicants will have a minimum of 3 years sales engineering, systems engineering, solutions architecture, network/system administration, technology consulting or relevant presales experience
  • Understanding of primary monitoring and management protocols; SNMP, TCP/IP, WMI
  • Scripting languages such as Powershell, VBScript, Javascript, shell etc
  • Experience of enterprise level network equipment; Routers, Switches, firewalls etc
  • Should be able to multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Performs audits, operational analysis and risk assessments.
  • Makes recommendations for enhancing services
  • Researches operational issues and providing mitigation recommendations
  • Experience of providing tier1/ tier 2 support
  • Good ‘client facing’ communication skills, with understanding of sales environment
  • Needs strong oral and written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent judgment and self-motivation
  • Works independently with little to no supervision researching new technologies or comparing technologies to meet the customers need while providing an unbiased opinion

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with the solarwinds orion suite and solarwinds MSP
  • Scripting Languages such as Powershell, VBScript, Javascript, Shell etc. Scripting 
  • Experience of Enterprise level network equipment; Routers, Switches, Firewalls
