Plant Controller
Description
The Plant Controller oversees the finance and accounting function for the Costa Rica facility, including accounting operations, general and cost accounting, fixed assets, gross margin, payroll, and internal controls. The controller also provides support in administrative duties and ensures that operations adhere to financial budgets, corporate goals, and statutory laws
Responsibilities:
- Lead local AOP (Annual Operating Plan), quarterly forecast process and oversee the long-term strategic planning process for the facility to support corporate objectives.
- Direct the oversight of all aspects of the monthly close process for the Costa Rica plant, including general ledger, fixed assets, inventory adjustments, manufacturing variance analysis, and the preparation of monthly financial statements, profitability analysis, and senior management reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Oversee the preparation of reports related to inventory, fixed assets, cost of goods sold (COGS), manufacturing variances, and distribution costs. Proactively analyze variances, communicate cost management opportunities, and implement strategies to optimize cost control within manufacturing and logistics processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Create physical inventory and cycle count programs, monitor inventory levels, identify obsolete or slow-moving items, and manage inventory reserves. Partner with the Supply Chain team to determine optimal inventory levels.
- Review and enhance cash management practices, including monitoring cash balances and improving liquidity.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve financial goals, policies, and procedures to support the company’s objectives, ensuring alignment with corporate strategies and enhancing finance processes and systems.
- Hire and develop the Accounting & Finance team, manage audits, review the work of accountants, and mentor accounting staff for career development.
- Establish and maintain internal control procedures in partnership with the internal audit team to maintain compliance with US SOX standards.
- Ensure compliance with Costa Rica’s local trade, commerce, fixed assets, and tax regulations, including filings with local regulatory bodies (PROCOMER).

- Proficiency in both English and Spanish, written and verbal.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- CPA or CMA Certification, preferred.
- 10+ years managing accounting operations, including cost accounting and FP&A, in a multi-factory environment.
- Proven experience in financial planning and analysis for manufacturing plants.
- Expert level understanding of standard costing environment.
- Medical device industry experience preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office, NetSuite, and other financial software.
- Knowledge of QMS/PLM software (Propel) preferred.
- Experience working in a SOX-compliant public company.
