About The Role
The Learning Experience Designer applies content knowledge, instructional design expertise, and accessibility principles to the design and production of engaging and compelling learning experiences. This position is a key contributor to product development and authoring initiatives within Imagine Learning and should ensure that new and existing content elements incorporate best practices in discipline-specific pedagogy and methodology.
This role works within the Execution Design team to define and develop the user experience for students in line with user, teacher, school, district, and national needs and business goals.
Essential Job Functions
- In earlier phases, work may include activity concepts and prototypes, physical or digital, in tandem with other subject matter experts and stakeholders to meet educational standards as set out by governing bodies.
- Analyse standards and other curriculum requirements to contribute to the development of scope and sequences, module maps, and other project content-planning documents.
- In middle phases (design, development, testing), work may include prototyping and thin slicing, creating content outlines and blueprints, contributing to user testing, and coordinating with engineering, PXD, UX/UI, Product Development, and related staff.
- In later phases, work may include consulting on educational and design documentation, in conjunction with Software Engineers, define product requirements that meet changing design strategies, market needs, and shifts in pedagogy/methodology.
- Design and architect items and activities for lessons that provide engaging experiences for student that improve educational outcomes.
- Analyse internal stakeholder feedback, usage reports and customer data from existing activities and maintain and update these activities as appropriate to ensure they meet evolving customer needs.
- Work closely with other departments / business units / cross functional teams, such as Product Management and Engineering Team to effectively establish learning design needs and ensure that there is an efficient and successful handoff between instructional design and content creation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a relevant content area plus PGCE/PGDE, or bachelor’s degree in product design / instructional design
- Previous experience in education.
- At least 2 years of educational content development, instructional design, or classroom teaching experience; or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary agile team.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of US K-12 education systems.
- Knowledge of the practical applications of progressive instructional design approaches, such as Universal Design for Learning and Culturally Responsive Education.
- Knowledge of the practical application of accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1
