Job Description

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible to effectively manage, direct, and administer the operation of the hospital in accordance with company policies and procedures, best practices in behavioral health and nursing practices, and governmental regulations to maintain quality care for all patients and a positive working environment for all staff. As the CEO, you will be knowledgeable of and compliant with all federal, state, and accreditation regulations. Ideally, you will be skilled in leadership of organizations and operations, principles of a culture of safety and quality, and able to develop and maintain good working relationships with all levels of the organization. You will report to the Governing Board.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain a culture and environment of quality in the hospital
  • Work with the clinical leadership team to assess and diagnose patients upon admission
  • Ensure nursing care is compliant with patient care plans
  • Monitor staffing to ensure quality and services while also being a prudent servant of the organization’s financial resources
  • Ensure patients’ rights and privacy are maintained

General Responsibilities:

  • Build and sustain the culture around the hospital’s purpose, Guiding Virtues, and mission statement, treating patients with respect and dignity
  • Train and develop leaders
  • Network with community partners and referral sources to establish a positive reputation in the community, build a foundation for referrals, and sustain growth at the hospital
  • Ensure staff is effectively trained, monitored, and evaluated
  • Provide support, guidance, and strategic coaching to hospital leadership
  • Oversee an effective Retention Task Force to maintain morale and increase employee retention
  • Maintain an effective Safety Committee that promotes a culture of safety
  • Ensure compliance to standards of care and best practices in the behavioral healthcare setting
  • Collaborate with hospital leaders in developing, implementing, reviewing, revising, and monitoring hospital wide performance improvement activities
  • Maintain regulatory compliance to all federal, state, local regulations, and accrediting organization standards
  • Develop and maintain an effective hospital Corporate Compliance Program
  • Lead hospital risk management activities
  • Utilize resources provided by Axiom consultants to ensure the hospital consistently delivers quality and service in patient care
  • Participate in cash meetings, working directly with the Accounts Payable and Payroll departments to monitor the hospital’s cash flow


  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, business, or a related field is required
  • Master’s degree in healthcare, business, behavioral health, or a related field is preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare operations, behavioral health, and/or leadership is required

Working Conditions:

  • General office environment in a behavioral health hospital
  • May require standing up or walking for up to 50% of the time
  • Required to use assistance when attempting to assist, life, or carry objects over 25 lbs.
