Job Description

As the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), you will work alongside the hospital’s DON in creating a culture that improved lives and exceeds expectations. The Assistant Director of Nursing implements effective policies and procedure to ensure the patients’ safety, quality, well-being and happiness. You will be responsible for effectively managing, directing, and administering the nursing department while adhering to company policies and procedures, standard nursing practices, and governmental regulations to maintain quality care for all patients and a positive working environment for all staff.

Ideally, you possess leadership and strong clinical skills, value challenging work, have excellent communication skills, and be organized.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervision, education, and guidance to the nursing team
  • Implement standards of nursing practice in the behavioral healthcare setting
  • Ensure there is adequate staff available in the unit to provide quality excellence
  • Assess quality of care
  • Run clinical meetings effectively and efficiently

General Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all nursing staff is properly hired, oriented, and effectively trained
  • Maintain staff and patient safety when engaging in crisis intervention, ensuring that least restrictive interventions are utilized
  • Prepare education and training opportunities for staff
  • Manage the nursing department’s financial resources tied to the staff, supplies, and related expenses, while ensuring high quality care and services
  • Network with community partners and referral sources to establish a positive reputation in the community, build a foundation for referrals, and sustain growth at all hospitals
  • Work with the hospital’s Retention Task Force to ensure high retention rates
  • Communicate with and educate family members regarding the progress of patients and help them understand their family member’s mental illness
  • Attend staff meetings and in-services as required

Qualifications:

  • Current state RN license required
  • BSN degree required
  • Management experience required
  • Quality and Performance Improvement knowledge preferred
  • 2+ years of nursing experience in an inpatient healthcare environment and/or behavioral health

Working Conditions:

  • Behavioral healthcare in a hospital environment
  • May require standing up or walking for up to 75% of the time
  • Required to use assistance when attempting to assist, lift or carry objects over 25 lbs.
