Background Information:
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, tactical data analysis, virtualization tactical platforms, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems for the US Department of Defense (DOD) and commercial customers, is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to be based in our Arlington, VA or Mt. Laurel, NJ office. The Systems Engineer will work with a fast-paced team of mission-focused individuals to solve some of the DOD’s toughest challenges. Initiative, creativity, reliability, and efficient teamwork will be required to successfully deliver innovative solutions in this dynamic customer space.
Overview:
The Warfare Systems business area is one of six mission critical business units within the IDT organization and is directly responsible for building, testing, and deploying the Navy’s next generation of tactical warfare and weapons systems. As the nation enters the ‘technology-first’ era of warfare, the Warfare Systems group will be responsible for enabling and accelerating the mission critical tactical capability that is delivered to the warfighter. The Warfare System’s System Engineer will work with our team of software and systems engineers building tactically relevant and technically innovative solutions to ensure the highest impact to the US Navy.
The Systems Engineer will work as a critical part of a multi-discipline team focused on the DOD’s initiatives in support of tactical capability development for Navy surface and unmanned (UxVs) platforms. The Warfare Systems project domains include real-time automated test and analysis, virtual computing environments, Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML) based data analytics, cybersecurity, as well as backfit and forward-fit tactical solutions. The successful candidate will be fiercely accountable for the delivery of uncompromisingly punctual and fiscally disciplined solutions that not only meet but go above and beyond the expectations of each and every customer.

Responsibilities Include:
- Interface with customers for technical and programmatic requirements
- Oversee relevant aspects of project lifecycle from initial kickoff through requirements analysis, design, testing and implementation phases for projects
- Contribute to Systems Integration practice
- Assist with the integration of new applications as they are added to the tactical environment
- Create and implement interface following Model Based System Engineering approach
- DoD Air and Surface Warfare related software design, development, and analysis
- Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC)
- Model/code testing algorithms in C++, Python, JavaScript, and Java
- Integrate software components into a complex software Dev environment
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in software or systems engineering, computer science, or related field
Required Skills:
- Ability to develop software in Java, C++, MATLAB, or Python [at least two] or other programming languages
- Ability to document requirements and specifications
- Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Ability to perform many concurrent assignments and determine the need for changing priorities
- Ability to lead the logical systematic conversion of program requirements into solution that acknowledge technical and cost constraints
- Familiarity with distributed systems and software design patterns
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation including sequence of operations, technical product literature, programming manuals, specifications and A|E drawings
- Familiarity with Agile development processes
- Ability to travel approximately 20%
Preferred Skills:
- Understanding of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)
- Experience analyzing Aegis Weapon System data
- Systems integration and test experience for tactical applications (Aegis Weapon Systems, SSDS, CEC, Link16, etc.)
- Hands-on experience in deploying and maintaining applications in a mission critical operational environment
- Experience with software testing, configuration management, and test automation
- Have experience working with Aegis Weapon Systems or NAVSEA tactical applications
- Experience using MagicDraw/Cameo
- Experience using architecture framework like DoDAF/UPDM/UAF
- DoD Air and Surface Warfare software development domain knowledge and experience
- System integration and test experience for complex software applications
- Have hands-on experience with Java/J2EE and object-oriented programming
- Experience programming in Java, C++, JavaScript, Python, and database design [all]
- Proficiency working with different SW development tools (Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, and Nexus, Git etc.)
