Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking an Sr. Systems Engineer to be based in our Arlington, Virginia or Mount Laurel, NJ office.
Overview:
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex defense systems, is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of system engineering principles and possess strong project management skills to lead and deliver complex technical projects.
All applicants must currently possess an active U.S. Security Clearance.
Responsibilities Include:
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of technical projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to project scope, schedule, and budget constraints.
- Define project objectives, requirements, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical feasibility.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, timelines, and resource allocations, identifying critical milestones and dependencies to mitigate risks and ensure successful project outcomes.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, software developers, and other stakeholders, to drive project execution and resolve technical issues effectively.
- Conduct regular project status meetings, providing updates to key stakeholders and leadership on project progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Lead project documentation efforts, including technical specifications, design documents, test plans, and post-implementation reviews, ensuring thorough documentation of project activities and outcomes.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development within the team.
- Implement and enforce best practices for security, compliance, and data protection.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely manner, providing root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve our infrastructure and processes.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or Math; Master’s Degree in Engineering or another technical field highly desired
- 7+ years of professional systems/software development experience in technically rigorous environments
Required Skills:
- Strong technical background in system design, integration, and deployment, with expertise in Naval combat systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven leadership abilities, with experience leading and motivating teams to achieve project goals in fast-paced environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and develop innovative solutions.
- Proficiency in designing and implementing systems architecture for scalable and distributed applications.
- Expertise in virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with complex systems and a fluency with contemporary programming languages, development environments, and architectures
- Experience in application development in a Linux and Windows environments
- Demonstrated ability to shift from one project to another in an agile work environment.
- Ability to travel approximately 10%
Preferred Skills:
- AEGIS or SSDS platform experience (e.g., support, integration, test)
- Solid understanding of networking principles, protocols, and security best practices.
- Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and tools such as Jira or Trello.
- Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and practices, including continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD), and collaboration tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, GitLab).
- Understanding of microservices architecture principles and experience in designing, deploying, and managing microservices-based applications.
- Familiarity with machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts, including experience in deploying and managing machine learning models in production environments.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Go, along with experience in software development methodologies, version control systems, and code review practices.
