About The Role:
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of cutting-edge cloud-based integration, automated testing and data analysis for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Sr. Information System Security Engineer to be part of our Security team and based out of our Arlington, VA location.
The Sr. Information Systems Security Engineer will manage maintain, and secure our Arlington office critical virtual infrastructure, physical and Linux/Windows environments. The ideal candidate has a deep technical background in virtualization/physical best practices, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a proven ability to maintain highly available, secure, and performant systems.
Clearance & Location Requirements:
- All applicants must currently possess an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
- This is an on-site position. Requiring at least 5 days in office, based out of our Arlington, VA location.
What You Will Do:
- VMware Infrastructure Management: Design, install, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts and vCenter Server.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability, security, and performance; implement and maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies. Demonstrate the ability to manage, execute, and maintain system compliance through STIG implementation, SCAP scanning, and ACAS/Nessus vulnerability management.
- Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, processes, and infrastructure maps.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other IT staff and business units to understand needs and implement solutions that meet organizational objectives.
- Window System Administration: Install, configure, secure, and maintain windows operating systems (Windows 11) in both virtual and physical environments.
- Server Administration: Install, configure, secure, and maintain server operating system (Server 2022 and 2025) in both virtual and physical environments.
- Linux System Administration: Install, configure, secure, and maintain Linux operating systems (Red Hat) in both virtual and physical environments.
- Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerCLI, Ansible Playbook) to streamline routine administrative tasks, deployments, and reporting.
- Troubleshooting: Provide Tier 3/4 support to quickly diagnose and resolve complex system and virtual/physical system performance issues, system configuration problems, and outages.
Who You Are (Required):
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or other STEM field (or equivalent full-time professional experience)
- 7+ years of full-time professional experience
- Security+ CE Certification
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time as needed
- Develop, deploy and manage OS hardening, and improve operational efficiency
- Advance knowledge of enterprise RHEL 8 and 9 OS, Microsoft Windows Server 2019, 2022, 2025 and Windows 11.
- Experience with utilizing WSUS to apply upgrades and patching to all Windows (11)/Windows Server (2019, 2022, 2025) (physical and virtual) systems)
- Must be able to apply STIGs to all Window 11 (physical and virtual) system and able to mitigate all vulnerabilities
- Helped with migrating to Office 365
- Managed Security tools (STIGs, Eval STIGs Nessus (ACAS Tenable)
- Experience with patching RHEL (8 and 9) with Satellite
- Experience with install and updating 3rd party software on RHEL images
- Install, configure and maintain application environments
- Must be able to manage and design Group Policies, access controls and DNS entries.
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V).
- Automation of physical and virtual server deployment, troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Familiarity with network management, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and firewalls.
- Proficiency with backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Solid experience with PowerShell or Bash scripting for automation.

- Demonstrated experience managing enterprise environments using PDQ Deploy or Tanium
- Implement, support, and maintain mutli-platform, including Splunk and other performance/monitoring technologies and utilize tools to monitor and support the systems.
- Contributes to the fulfillment of technical projects, including technical computer security issues, policies and procedures at the network and host level.

Pay Range*: $135,000 - $231,000 or $164,000 - $273,000
This amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate’s experience, skills, and education. The posted range does not include bonuses, commissions, tips, or other benefits. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
