Background Information:
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DoD), is seeking a Model-Based Systems Engineer to be based in our Arlington, VA or Mt. Laurel, NJ offices with an option for remote execution.
Overview:
In this role, the Model-Based Systems Engineer is responsible for incorporating Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) best practices to support the design, development, and implementation of an Integrated Digital Engineering Environment (IDDE) for IDT’s DoD customers. A successful candidate for this position will have experience in systems requirement management, interface design and management, and system behavior / activity diagramming, including (but not limited to): use case, sequence, and network diagrams; mapping system requirements to physical and functional architecture, and conducting configuration management of system configurations. Additional areas of focus can include system and structural decomposition, requirements traceability, parametric analysis, behavioral analysis, and operational testing.

Responsibilities Include:
- Apply MBSE principles to the definition of system architecture, behavior, and functional baselines
- Elicit and capture customer and system technical requirements in models, incorporating languages, ontologies, and standard APIs for third party tools
- Develop and extend system behavioral models through requirements, design documentation, and related systems engineering documents
- Integrate models using modern requirements management, architecture, and systems engineering software tools
- Adhere to established modeling guidelines and update them as needed
- Assist in the development of a digital engineering style guide for the IDDE
- Conduct verification and validation (V&V) of models and develop tools/techniques for automated V&V
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, such as Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Mathematics.
Required Skills:
- Experience with systems engineering requirements and concept development; design and development of system architecture; systems hardware and software design and development; system integration and test; information assurance; MBSE principles; tools used to generate systems engineering products
- Expert-level knowledge of the Systems Modeling Language (SysML), Unified Modeling Language (UML), or comparable modeling language(s)
- Extensive experience MagicDraw and/or IBM Rhapsody modeling tools/environments
- Knowledge of DoDAF and/or UAF modeling standards
- Thorough understanding of object orientation and polymorphism
- Experience with interpretations of data models from abstract concepts
- Able to prioritize workload across several milestones and projects
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working on unusually complex problems and providing highly innovative solutions
- Ability to participate in cross-functional planning, coordination, and task execution situations involving the full spectrum of systems engineering and integration activities
- Experience with IBM DOORS and the ability to write DXL scripts
- Familiarity with at least two major systems/software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, DevOps)
- Experience with Linux, preferably RedHat/CentOS
- Working knowledge of at least two of the following computer languages: C++, Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript
- Experience using configuration management / version control tools such as Git, SVN, ClearCase, etc.
- Ability to travel approximately 5%
