Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Senior Virtualization Engineer to be based in our Arlington, VA office. This Senior Virtualization Engineer will work with a fast-paced team of mission-focused engineers to solve some of the DoD’s toughest challenges. Initiative, creativity, reliability, and efficient teamwork will be required to successfully deliver innovative solutions in this dynamic customer space.
Overview:
IDT seeks to add a Senior Virtualization Engineer responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, administering, managing, and integrating Virtual System Test Equipment (VSTE) that consists of hardware and software located in an IDT classified lab. At the core of the VSTE is IDT's flagship Automated Test and Re-Test (ATRT) Enterprise Platform (AEP), which enables virtualized combat system software to be deployed within virtual test beds to execute alongside ATRT's suite of automated test and analysis tools. The selected Senior Virtualization Engineer will be responsible to lead digital system integration including software virtualization, hardware emulation, and modeling and simulation components within a US government-owned Integrated Digital Engineering Environment (IDEE). Candidate should have prior experience with virtualization, containerization, and hardware emulation, as well as experience with legacy operating systems and architectures, such as Red Hat Linux, Windows, Solaris, VxWorks, and PowerPC. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to general maintenance of the system infrastructure including servers, storage, and networking equipment, the software orchestration of these servers, and creation and administration of virtualized platforms.

Responsibilities Include:
- Lead a detailed analysis of existing digital system representations, including software virtualization, hardware emulation, and modeling and simulation components.
- Lead the development of a plan to update existing digital system representations and create new digital system representations.
- Lead the integration of digital system representations within a government owned IDEE to support system of systems (SoS) design, development, integration, test, and evaluation.
- Work closely with the US government representatives and stakeholders to obtain existing digital artifacts and justify the need for additional digital artifacts based on fidelity requirements.
- Lead development and implementation of a plan to verify and validate individual digital system representations and the integrated SoS environment.
- Lead development and implementation of a plan to periodically update and test digital representations and the integrated SoS environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, such as Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, or equivalent. Master’s degree in relevant technical discipline, preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of experience (preferably in defense), including digital system development or integration
- Defense system integration and test experience, with server and/or desktop virtualization
- Familiar with Networking basics
- Experience with the following technology areas: Docker, K8s/Kubernetes, Microservices
- Proficiency in a Linux operating environment, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
- Ability to read, write, and debug scripting/programming languages such as Bash, Python, Ruby, Java, C/C++, and JavaScript
- Virtualization infrastructure experience with VMware/KVM or similar virtualization tools
- Ability to lead small technical teams in the logical systematic conversion of program requirements into solution(s) that are accountable to technical and cost constraints
- Familiarity with Agile development processes
- Clearance: Secret or ability to achieve Secret clearance
- Ability to travel approximately 10%
- Experience working with commercial or military aviation enabling systems (e.g., A-10, F-16, F/A-18, F-22, F-35, MQ-1, MQ-9, MQ-25, TTWCS, B-1, B-2, B-21, B-52, KC-130, E-2D, E-3, Boeing or Airbus aircraft)
- Experience working with military aviation-based weapons (e.g., Tomahawk, LRASM, AIM-9X, AARGM, SDB-II, JSM)
- Experience working with military aviation-based sensors and data (e.g. radar, electronic warfare, electro-optical, infrared, sonar, stores management, air data, fuel data, weapons data, engine data)
- Experience with the following technology areas: Helm, Keycloak, ArgoCD, REST/GRPC/Protobuf, Ansible-playbook, SQL relational databases (e.g. Postgres, MS-SQL, Oracle)
- Networking experience – TCP/IP, DNS, NetBIOS, VLAN, Routing, LAN/WAN
- Experience/knowledge with NFS, iSCSI, LDAP, AD, NTP, DNS, DHCP
- Hardware emulation experience (e.g. Simics or QEMU)
- Experience with Solaris, PowerPC, VxWorks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
