Background Information:
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Senior Network Engineer experienced in United States Naval operational networks (Subject Matter Expert) to be based in IDT’s San Diego office. 
 
Overview: 
The Senior Network Engineer will analyze government business, stakeholder requirements, and the design solutions, using IDT’s technical capabilities, to meet those requirements. The Engineer will lead a team to architect, design, and configure networks to support manual and automated test operation using IDT’s ATRT Enterprise Platform for use in government, classified network environments. The Engineer will also use next generation software defined networking technologies to perform what-if scenarios supporting the US Navy’s integration to the DoD’s Joint, All-Domain, Command and Control (JADC2) environment.
 
This role requires a highly organized and experienced individual capable of leading teams to build new network architectures, troubleshoot network issues, and support test result analysis. The successful candidate will utilize knowledge and experience with networks like those used by the US Navy and potentially other DoD services to create virtualized replicas of those same networks.

Responsibilities Include:  
  • Lead the development and documentation of network architectures including existing US Navy networked systems
  • Develop new proof-of-concept network architectures using existing US Navy networks as the basis and incorporating new networks, terminals, or service providers
  • Lead the creation of capability to augment existing US Navy systems with Software Defined Networking (SDN) technologies, evaluate impact of SDN technologies
  • Design and configure autonomous systems using common network protocols like OSPF
  • Incorporate network segmentation constructs like VLANs and VRF routing domains into existing and new network architectures
  • Document/present network architectures to customers, obtain feedback, & update designs
  • Document configuration changes and impacts made to support software defined networks
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • 7+ year(s) of experience in network engineering
Required Skills:
  • Experience designing, operating, or maintaining Navy networks like CANES or ADNS
  • Experience designing, operating, or maintaining US Navy terminal systems such as TTNT, BFTN, ATIP, or MIDS
  • Familiarity with segregation constructs including VRF and VLANs
  • Experience creating networks using Autonomous System routing protocols like OSPF
  • Expertise with Software Defined Networking technologies like VMWare NSX
  • Familiarity with networking and security in commercial cloud environments.
  • Capability to architect, design and configure networks utilizing concepts above
  • Basic knowledge of Linux operation and administration (firewall, services, applications)
Preferred Skills:
  • 7+ years of experience in either designing, applying, or operating US Navy tactical systems and networks
  • Experience with Open-Source routing tools like Quagga, Free Range Routing, VyOS, or similar
  • Experience configuring Open Source VM switching tools like Open Virtual Switch (OvS)
  • Knowledge of business and stakeholder requirements management and customer requirement elicitation
  • Familiarity with automated test tools
  • Understanding of System Requirement Verification Matrices
  • Understanding of system requirement allocation
  • Experience with software testing, test automation, and test tools
  • Understanding of test automation design patterns, and software testing principles and methodologies
  • Experience with virtualizing systems for use in a testing environment
  • Some proficiency with source code control systems (e.g., Git) and task tracking systems such as Jira
  • Some proficiency in a Linux operating environment (e.g., configuration of networks interfaces and network services like DNS, NTP and DHCP)

Pay Range*: 132,300 - $231,000 or $162,450 - $273,000

Notably, however, this amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate’s experience, skills, and education. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
