Background Information:
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking an Junior IT Engineer to be based in our San Diego, CA office.   
 
Overview: 
IDT is seeking an Junior IT Engineer, to join a fast-growing deployments team, that will deploy and maintain Linux and Windows based computing systems intended to support virtualized testing of Naval Tactical Systems. This job will require mostly travel (an excess of 50%) to customer sites around the United States and, on occasion, internationally. Responsibilities will include IT Infrastructure configuration, system maintenance, and Naval tactical applications troubleshooting and support. When not traveling to customer sites, duties will include creating documentation for processes, procedures, or providing remote support to internal engineers or customers.  
 
All applicants must currently possess an active U.S. Security Clearance.
 
Responsibilities Include:  
  • Travel to customer sites to assist in deployments, maintenance, and troubleshooting of on-prem virtual machine infrastructure in a classified environment. Travel can be more than 50% at times. 
  • Interact with technical members from multiple organizations in a team environment 
  • Support land-based and at-sea test events around the U.S and internationally. 
  • Assist in design documentation that can be referenced by the customer. 
  • Support various Business Area teams at IDT and customer sites. 
  • Provide end user training 
  • Test and deploy combat systems on virtual systems. 
  • Develop solutions and processes to better support the customer and make teams more efficient. 
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or relevant field of Engineering with a plan to receive a Bachelors in the near future. 
  • 2+ years of experience in a relevant technology field or high level of interest and conceptual knowledge of relevant technologies. 
Required Skills:
  • Experience with Operating Systems (Microsoft Windows, Linux) configuration and administration 
  • Experience with Virtualization Infrastructure, VMware experience preferred  
  • Experience and strong understanding of networking concepts– TCP/IP, Switching, Routing, Firewalls, Subnetting 
  • Understanding or conceptual knowledge of container technologies such as Docker and Podman 
  • Able to shift from one project to another in an agile work environment. 
  • Ability to travel to customer sites, at land or at sea, for deployments and event support 
Preferred Skills:
  • Some experience with scripting (ex. Python, Bash, Powershell) 
  • Some experience with automation tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform 
  • Understanding of protocols (TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, IP, HTTP) 
  • Experience with STIG process 
  • Experience with various Naval systems

Pay Range*: $72,000 - $114,450 or $85,500 - $139,650

Notably, however, this amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate’s experience, skills, and education. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
