Director of Manager Effectiveness and Competency Implementation

 

 This is a vacancy for the 26-27 school year with a target start date of July 1, 2026

Mission:

The Director of Manager Effectiveness & Competency Implementation ensures that every manager at IDEA Public Schools is equipped with practical skills, high-quality tools, and clear expectations to lead teams effectively. This role designs and delivers training experiences, resources, and best practices that translate IDEA’s leadership competencies and rubrics into consistent, high-impact management behaviors.
By combining expert adult learning design with strong implementation systems, this role ensures that IDEA’s performance frameworks are not just understood, but actively shaping how managers coach, develop, and lead their teams to results. The ultimate goal is to improve the day-to-day staff experience by ensuring all IDEA managers are prepared, capable, and confident leaders.

Location:

This is a full-time remote position based in Texas, with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.

 

Travel Expectations:    

This role requires travel up to 40% to IDEA regions and campuses for training delivery, coaching, and observations around implementation and impact. 

 

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities

 

Essential Duties:

  • Design Leadership Training and Best Practices:
    Create high-quality training programs, toolkits, and learning resources that teach managers how to apply IDEA’s leadership competencies and rubrics in practical, everyday situations.
  • Translate Frameworks into Actionable Manager Tools:
    Develop models, conversation guides, and performance supports that help managers effectively coach, give feedback, set goals, manage performance, and lead teams.
  • Drive Implementation of Competencies and Rubrics:
    Own organization-wide implementation strategies to ensure that leadership competencies and performance rubrics are consistently understood, applied, and reinforced across HQ, regional, and campus teams throughout the employee life cycle (i.e. Staff Development Cycle)
  • Build Scalable, Technology-Enabled Learning Content:
    Design reusable curricula, microlearning modules, facilitator guides, and digital resources, leveraging technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools (e.g., chatbots and digital agents) to efficiently deliver high-impact learning experiences that strengthen manager capability at scale.
  • Use Data to Target Design Priorities:
    Analyze engagement data, performance trends, and stakeholder feedback to identify gaps in manager practice and create targeted learning solutions.
  • Align Across Talent Systems:
    Partner with HR, Performance Management, Talent Development, Operations, and Schools Team leaders to ensure that competencies and rubrics are embedded in onboarding, evaluations, and ongoing professional learning.
  • Support Change Management and Adoption:
    Lead communication, stakeholder engagement, and training strategies that ensure new tools and expectations are implemented with clarity, consistency, and impact.
     

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

          Facilitate manager trainings, workshops, and calibration sessions\

          Coach leaders on effective management practices and rubric application

          Partner with regions to support in-field execution of manager initiatives
• Contribute to organization-wide projects related to culture and engagement

          Support creation of LMS content and digital learning experiences

          Ensure all deliverables meet quality, alignment, and timeline expectations

          Other duties as assigned

Additional Skills:

          Expert designer and facilitator of adult learning

          Ability to convert strategy into practical tools and resources

          Strong coaching and feedback skills

          Exceptional written and verbal communication

          Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite including but not limited to Power Automate, Loop, Planner, Teams, Word, Powerpoint

          LMS administration and digital learning design

          Data analysis and impact measurement (Excel, Power BI, or similar)

          Project management tools (Asana, Trello, or similar)

          Experience with HRIS platforms such as Workday

          Experience with generative AI tools

          Ability to influence without positional authority
 

Required experience:

          Bachelor’s Degree

          Minimum 5 years of experience in talent development, leadership development, education, or organizational development

          Minimum 2 years of experience managing a team of individuals

          Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating adult learning

          Experience implementing performance frameworks, rubrics, or leadership competencies
 

Preferred Education and Experience:

          Master’s Degree

          Experience coaching managers or senior leaders

          Experience creating large-scale, tech enhanced professional learning programs
 

Physical Requirements:

          Able to sit/stand in one place while working on a computer

          Able to move through airports, schools to travel for observations

          Able to lift up to at least 25lbs of video equipment

Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $98,246 and $115,930, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
