Database Administrator
Mission:
The Database Administrator will be responsible for improving IDEA’s operational processes and supporting critical strategies by assisting in the new development and implementation related to our internal application systems. The DBA will deliver the testing, ongoing evaluation, and validation of organizational data structures and identify issues in current processes while providing proven strategies for ongoing databases throughout the organization. This job requires the ability and desire to work and communicate well in a dynamic team environment as well as dependability and self-sufficiency.

This is a full-time remote position based in Texas, with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities
Essential Duties:
- Ensure proper resource allocation forecasting and disaster recovery testing and verification procedures are in place for all data centers.
- All internally hosted systems, networks, and critical applications achieve an average of 99.5% update during business hours from July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026.
- 95 % of average tickets are responded to within 4 hours across IT sub-department on Zendesk in each IDEA TX operating region as measured by Zendesk during business hours from July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026.
- 100% of existing and new TX campuses have secure access to network infrastructure. Student and staff account creation automation is operational 1 week before the first day of school.
- 100% of network-connected systems and resources are at a security maturity level of at least “3 – defined” per the Texas Cyber Security Framework.

Additional Skills:
Required Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Microsoft SQL Server database administrator with significant SQL Server 2016/2017/2019/2022 production experience
- Proficient working knowledge of the SQL language, including T-SQL
- Experience with Azure DB, Oracle DB, and other database flavors
- Knowledge of high availability architecture including clustering, data replication to a multisite setup, transaction log shipping, database mirroring, and replication
- Experience with SQL encryption technologies, PowerShell, and third-party monitoring tools
- Hands-on knowledge with Microsoft SQL Server Business Intelligence offering of products – Analysis Services, Reporting Services and Integration Services
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- A highly self-motivated individual with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-first IT environment
Preferred Experience:
- MCSA: SQL Server is preferred
- MCSE: Data Platform is preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged sitting at a desk
- Use of computer and related equipment
- Ability to work flexible hours and support night or weekend work as needed

Compensation & Benefits:
Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $74,700 and $87,100, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
