Assistant Director of Assessment

 

 

 

Role Mission: The Assistant Director of Assessment, under the supervision, guidance and direction of the Managing Director of Assessment, supports and executes the assessment program for assigned entities/regions within the district. This role manages assigned National Assessment Team staff members and indirectly manages an assigned caseload of testing coordinators to ensure 100% of students participate in 100% of required assessments according to the annual IDEA Public Schools testing calendar, and manages the interaction of stakeholders within the student assessment management system. Working in a highly distributed charter environment, the Assistant Director of Assessment supports the Managing Director of Assessment in ensuring student assessment data will be available and actionable, allowing leaders to make data driven decisions.

 

This position has a target start date of July 1, 2024.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manage 2 staff members (1 Assessment Associate & 1 Assessment Manager);
Indirectly manage a caseload of testing coordinators/testing point people

 

Location:

This is a full-time hybrid position based in Texas with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.

 

Travel Expectations:

Occasional statewide travel to IDEA schools across Texas. Occasional interstate travel to IDEA schools in Florida, Louisiana, and/or Ohio.

 

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities

 

Essential Duties:

-Execute the annual assessment plan across 100% of campuses for external assessments. 26.5%
-Develops and executes assessment logistic plan across 100% of campuses for internal assessments. 26.5%
-Manage the procurement, execution, and integration of the student assessment management systems at IDEA Public Schools. 12.5%
-Management of Assigned National Assessment Team Members. 10%
-Testing Coordinator Support and Retention. 24%

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

-collaborate with IDEA partners and/or external partners, as needed.
-respond promptly (within 24 hours on workdays) to all work messages
-maintain a positive and professional attitude in all work interactions
-attend professional development/trainings and/or conferences, as assigned by direct manager

 

What You Bring – Competencies

 

Knowledge and Skills:

-Knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements of state-mandated K-12 assessments in Texas, but also preferably in Florida, Louisiana, and/or Ohio.
-Knowledge of district-mandated K-12 assessments in Texas, but also preferably Florida, Louisiana, and/or Ohio.
-Ability to interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
-Knowledge of multiple state and district testing systems, including student information systems.
-Ability to develop and deliver training and information to adult learners.
-Exceptional problem-solving ability
-Ability to take initiative and develop and maintain collaborative business partnerships with various teams
-Excellent organizational and communication skills and attention to detail

 

Required experience:

-Education: Bachelor's degree required, experience accepted in lieu of degree
-Experience: A minimum of 3 years direct experience overseeing district, state, national and college-ready assessments at the district level. Microsoft 365 Suite.

 

Preferred experience:

-Education: Master's degree in education, educational leadership, or related field

 

Physical Requirements:

-While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for prolonged periods of time, but will also stand, walk, talk, or listen.
-The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
-The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
-Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $81,800 and $95,800, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
