Role Mission: IDEA Physical Education teachers instruct students in Academy Grades {PreK-5} and/or College Preparatory Grades {6-12} in all physical education aspects. The physical education program strives to develop students' personal fitness and skill-related abilities. The program reinforces students' understanding and application of fitness concepts and motor skills through a variety of movement forms and activities.
All physical education teachers are responsible for ensuring that every IDEA student masters personal and social responsibility, self-directed learning, and the problem-solving skills necessary to succeed in college. IDEA Physical Education teachers set ambitious goals for student achievement and diligently track student data to inform dynamic and effective daily lesson plans. Student class size can vary depending on the grade level/levels assigned and campus schedule model. A typical Physical Education classroom may have a classroom size of 25- 60 students and may potentially have the support of a PE co-teacher.
What We Offer
Compensation:
- The starting teacher salary for 0 years of experience is $48,500. This role is eligible for various stipends based on certifications, credentials, and campus leadership ranging from $500-$4,000 each. We also offer opportunities and incentives through our Teacher Career Pathway with the potential to earn up to $10,000 in additional compensation. - Additional hourly compensation is provided for after school tutoring or Saturday school as assigned.

- Paid Family Leave: Eligible staff may receive up to 8 weeks of paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child, based on their tenure with the organization and caregiver designation.
- Tuition Reimbursement: Staff members may apply for up to 50% of tuition paid toward a qualifying degree program, up to $5,250 maximum per year subject to manager discretion and budget availability.
- Employer-Paid Mental/Behavioral Health: 5 face-to-face counseling sessions within a year, unlimited 24/7 telephonic counseling, and other work-life services available at no cost.

IDEA may offer a relocation allowance to defray the cost of moving for this role, if applicable.
What You Bring -- Competencies
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution; focus in physical education, kinesiology or physiology, physical therapy, or nutrition and health preferred
- Experience: Some experience in a classroom setting or with children in a similarly large group or team setting such a park and recreation centers, scouts’ organizations, and fitness programs.
- Licenses or Certifications: State Certification preferred but not required
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability and motivate students to participate in various forms of fitness and health impacting activities.
- Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior, in a large group setting indoors and out.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills that will positively influence colleagues, students, and parent community members.
- Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment
What You’ll Do -- Accountabilities
Responsibilities:
- Implement IDEA curricula and assessments to meet ambitious expectations
- Enhance students' disposition toward leading a physically active lifestyle
- Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback
- Implement formal and informal fitness assessments to track each individual student’s progress and learning needs, adjust lesson plans accordingly and update gradebook weekly
- Communicate students’ fitness progress with student and family on a weekly basis
- Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system that aligns to campus- wide initiatives while developing students’ character and sense of community in the classroom
- Help shape and develop a school wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student by creating social and emotional opportunities to collaborate with peers in the physically active setting.
- Leverage the District Wellness Policy and incite support for healthier campuses.
- Participate in weekly professional development, grade-level meetings and activities, and school wide meetings and functions
- Steward the campus impact as a Healthy Kids Here campus representative
- Engage in minimal summer and year-long district, school and personal learning and development
- Minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week
- Additional responsibilities may include: after-school tutoring or Saturday school and are based on the needs of our scholars
- Secondary Role: Launching site and/or College Prep. PE Teachers, ARE typically assigned the role of Campus Athletics Coordinator; at Principals final discretion.
