Director of Content Strategy

 

 This is a vacancy for the 26-27 school year with a target start date of July 1, 2026

Mission:

The Director of Content Strategy leads the vision, development, and execution of IDEA Public Schools’ content strategy to strengthen awareness, engagement, and alignment with the organization’s mission and brand. This leader ensures that all digital, creative, and storytelling outputs—from video and photography to web, print, and social—work cohesively to inspire and inform IDEA’s audiences while advancing organizational priorities. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Director of Content Strategy oversees the Content Strategy team, including creative services, multimedia, and copywriting staff and manages external creative partners as needed. 

 

Location:

This is a full-time position based in Texas, with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.

 

Travel Expectations:    

Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to team quarterlies, on-site creative direction or content gathering, or during signature events such as College Signing Day. 

 

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy aligned to IDEA’s mission, organizational priorities, and stakeholder engagement goals while defining success metrics for reach, engagement, and brand consistency across channels.
  • Manage the planning, creation, and delivery of high-quality, optimized content across web, social, video, and print channels, ensuring all materials adhere to brand standards and advance strategic campaigns, including enterprise initiatives. 
  • Supervise creative design, video production, and content teams while building systems, workflows, and project management processes to ensure timely, efficient, and on-brand production. 
  • Utilize analytics and audience insights to assess content effectiveness and inform data-driven adjustments to messaging, format, and delivery. Additionally, work to improve searchability, accessibility, engagement, and innovation across all platforms. 
  • Collaborate with business partners and leaders to maintain a consistent voice, tone, and narrative across all IDEA platforms. Ensure storytelling reflects IDEA’s core values and strategic vision. 
  • Hire, develop, and mentor content and creative professionals. Foster collaboration, creativity, and accountability through clear expectations, coaching, and professional growth opportunities. 
  • Stay current on trends in content strategy, storytelling, and digital engagement. Identify opportunities to elevate IDEA’s creative presence, introduce new formats, and improve systems that support scale and quality.

  • Partner with Communications and Marketing leaders to align messaging calendars and audience segmentation plans.
  • Support special events, campaigns, and leadership communications with creative storytelling assets.
  • Manage creative vendors and budget for content production and digital asset management.

  • Exceptional data analytics and content optimization skills
  • Strong command of storytelling, editorial planning, and content governance
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, project management tools, and digital analytics platforms
  • Excellent visual and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects with competing deadlines. 

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • 8+ years in content strategy, creative direction, or communications leadership
    Proven track record managing creative teams and multi-channel content programs
  • 3 + years of full-time people management required 

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Design, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Content creation or management experience
  • Creating a scalable content strategy
  • Experience in education, nonprofit, or mission-driven sectors 

 

Physical Requirements:

  • This is a sedentary position.
  • The ability to support the set-up of special events.
  • The ability to walk/stand for long periods as needed during events. 

 

What We Offer:


Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $108,100 and $128,600, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
