Description:
This position supports the National Weather Service (NWS) Office of Science and Technology Integration (OSTI). Located in Silver Spring, MD, the office is designed to manage the execution of acquisition and development programs meeting the needs for current and future NWS operations. Some of the programs managed include: Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS), product improvement project for observing systems (e.g., ASOS, Automated Surface Observing System and NEXRAD), NexGen, Weather Radio Improvement Project (WRIP), Hurricane Forecast Improvement Program (HFIP) and Regional Climate Reference Network (RCRN) to access science and technology options, prepare solutions and development plans to meet service requirements.



Key Responsibilities:

● Assist senior Program Managers in developing, maintaining, and managing plans and schedules in Smartsheet to track and report Office of Science and Technology Integration (OSTI) Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and Research and Development (R&D) milestones, deliverables, and metrics.

● Support the National Science and Operations Officer (SOO) / Development and Operations Hydrologist (DOH) Program through facilitation and planning of the national workshop, quarterly meetings, and engagement with the field.

● Coordinate the preparation of quad charts (e.g. Quarterly Program Review (QPR)) and other presentations to communicate program status to NOAA and National Weather Service (NWS) management.

● Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate regular and annual meetings (e.g. AOP), and generate meeting minutes for the Modeling Team.

● Provide general support to branch chief and and program leads. Respond to data calls and general taskers efficiently.



Required Skills /Education/ Certifications & Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in physical science. (Oceanography, Meteorology, Environmental Science
  • 2-4 years experience in programmatic strategic portfolio management
  • 2+ years' experience in program/project management
  • PMP (preferred)
  • Experience with SmartSheets (preferred)
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
