The Role
iboss is seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Federal Forward Deployed Software Engineer to work directly within U.S. federal government customer environments.
You will serve as the technical face of iboss within federal environments, bridging the gap between our engineering team and the customer , translating government requirements into technical solutions, resolving complex issues in real time, and ensuring mission success. This role requires a deep technical background in Java development, a strong understanding of federal IT environments, and the ability to work effectively within classified settings.

The Role
iboss is seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Federal Forward Deployed Software Engineer to work directly within U.S. federal government customer environments.
You will serve as the technical face of iboss within federal environments, bridging the gap between our engineering team and the customer , translating government requirements into technical solutions, resolving complex issues in real time, and ensuring mission success. This role requires a deep technical background in Java development, a strong understanding of federal IT environments, and the ability to work effectively within classified settings.
Key Responsibilities
On-Site Deployment & Integration
- Deploy, configure, and integrate the iboss platform within classified and unclassified federal government environments
- Develop and customize Java-based software solutions to meet agency-specific technical requirements and mission needs
- Collaborate directly with government IT teams, program managers, and security officers to ensure seamless platform integration with existing federal infrastructure
- Build and maintain integrations with agency systems including SIEMs, SOARs, identity providers, and other security tools
- Design and develop Java-based components, APIs, and integrations tailored to federal customer environments
- Write clean, secure, well-documented code in accordance with federal security standards (NIST, FedRAMP, DISA STIGs)
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues at the code level in production government environments
- Contribute enhancements and federal-specific requirements back to the core iboss engineering team
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned federal agency accounts
- Conduct technical workshops, training sessions, and architecture reviews with agency stakeholders
- Translate complex government requirements into actionable engineering tasks and solutions
- Provide expert-level guidance on Zero Trust architecture, network security, and cloud security best practices within federal frameworks (NIST 800-207, CISA Zero Trust Maturity Model)
- Partner with iboss's core engineering, product, and customer success teams to relay federal customer needs and drive roadmap prioritization
- Work closely with the federal sales and solutions engineering teams to support pre- and post-sale technical activities
- Document solutions, configurations, and custom development for knowledge sharing across the organization
- Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (required; TS/SCI strongly preferred)
- 5+ years of professional software development experience with Java as the primary language
- U.S. citizenship required
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals — TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, SSL/TLS, proxies, and firewalls
- Experience deploying and integrating software within U.S. federal government or Department of Defense environments
- Familiarity with federal security frameworks including FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-207, and DISA STIGs
- Proficiency with RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
- Experience with Linux/Unix-based systems
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills in live production environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical government stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), Secure Web Gateway (SWG), CASB, or SASE platforms
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or Google Cloud for Government
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices
- Additional programming languages such as Python, Go, or C++
- Experience with SIEM/SOAR integrations (Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, etc.)
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CompTIA Security+, CEH, or AWS Certified Security Specialty
- Experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions
