EMBEDDED LINUX SYSTEMS ENGINEER IV

 

 

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

Design, develop, and test all aspects of software for Hunter Douglas’ motorized shade gateways using principles and techniques of software and electrical engineering. This includes new products, existing products, line extensions, product enhancements, and test fixtures. Work is performed for functional units at Window Fashions Division as well as various divisions of Hunter Douglas.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

An employee in this position, may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions.

  • Architect and implement embedded Linux software for Hunter Douglas’ motorized shade systems.
  • Conduct technical reviews and participate in peer code reviews providing teammates with comments and suggestions.
  • Design and write test plans, unit tests and automated test fixtures to ensure software code quality and integrity.
  • Use project management tools to track progress and provide insight to stakeholders regarding tasks being performed.
  • Document all aspects of software designs such as architecture diagrams, design decisions, state/sequence diagrams and utilize documentation tools for auto-generated documentation.
  • Assist cross-functional units in product advancement teams by troubleshooting issues, communicating solutions and helping deploy fixes.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with the functional units at WFD and other divisions to integrate firmware into overall designs.
  • Train the staff of the Technical Services department in the operational use and features of the firmware aspects of new products.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND KSA’S FOR EMPLOYMENT:

An employee in this position, upon appointment, should have the equivalent of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering.
  • 7+ years or professional experience. 
  • Experience working with consumer IoT devices is highly desired.
  • Must be able to work a flexible hybrid in office schedule.
  • Expert knowledge of embedded Linux systems including first/second stage bootloaders, loadable kernel modules, embedded Linux file systems and security best practices for hardening Linux systems.
  • Expert knowledge of C/C++ programming skills for embedded systems.
  • Solid knowledge of ARM architecture and SoC’s
  • Solid knowledge of embedded Linux build systems (eg. buildroot, bitbake)
  • Solid knowledge of over-the-air update processes and tools for embedded Linux.
  • Solid knowledge of TCP/IP protocols, network set-up, administration, security
  • Solid knowledge of distributed version control software (eg. Git, Mercurial).
  • Solid knowledge of continuous integration workflows and tooling (eg. Docker, Podman).
  • Basic knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP and/or Azure.
  • Basic knowledge of wireless IoT protocols (BLE, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread or similar).
  • Basic knowledge of analog and digital circuits.
  • Familiarity with Apple HomeKit
  • Skill in operation of electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes and digital logic analyzers.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Ability to deal with conflicting design requirements with creativity and innovation.
  • Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form.
  • Ability to supervise work performance of contract employees and suppliers.

Anticipated pay range for this role depending on experience- $125,000 - $152,000 with an annual discretionary bonus.
