Job Summary

The Master Scheduler is responsible for plant planning systems integrity, analysis of weekly demand, capacity planning, material planning, plant fill rates and the overall scheduling operation.  The Master Scheduler maintains each department’s capacity plan and works with Department Managers to assemble shift configuration plans that minimize lead times for shades in a multi-site planning environment.  The Master Scheduler needs to be highly organized and understand the processes that drive a supply chain, as well as production constraints at the manufacturing facilities. Works with Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Production, and Quality to develop and manage the build schedule for multiple production lines, while considering current inventory, lead times and production capacity. In addition, this position is expected to make critical decisions based on the best information at hand and take a leadership role in building consensus among several parties, including at times conflict resolution among various functions.  One of the key outputs of this role is a weekly schedule based on total backlog that identifies the ATB (available to build quantity) based on material shortages.  The schedule will be used to coordinate staffing for future weeks and set expedite priorities.  This position aligns material, manpower and customer priorities and provides direction to the Production Assistant and Department Mgr. based on supply availability and customer demand priorities.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the weekly plant planning demand/capacity cycle. This includes the analysis of the demand input, capacity planning, and initiation of corrective/preventive actions, validation of demand output and communication and transfer of the output to the scheduling team
  • Responsible for maintaining plant planning systems data integrity and functionality
  • Organizes and facilitates a weekly demand/capacity planning meeting with the Supply Chain team and Production Assistants
  • Organizes and facilitates monthly Capacity Review Meetings with Supply Chain as part of the Supply Agreement Meeting process
  • Manages recovery and communication related to backorders
  • Responsible for the development and/or maintenance of plant determination by product configurations within SAP
  • Establishes and/or communicates key scheduling metrics (schedule attainment, etc.)
  • Applies scheduling and inventory management principles within a high volume high mix manufacturing environment
  • Work within SAP MRP system for key planning activities
  • Will tie out monthly capacity and labor plans with material and labor resource availability
  • Develops standard work training documents, and provides training on systems and supply chain functions
  • Applies various scheduling concepts (ABC, Kanban, Trigger Points, Min Max, Heijunka, EOQ)
  • Work with material / network planners to synchronize supply with department schedules
  • Coordinates material cut overs and timing of inventory phase in / phase out
  • Analyzes production performance to identify opportunities requiring support team focus
  • Applies project management techniques to meet goals and objectives (Scope, Track, Execute)
  • Works proficiently with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Qualifications, Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Operations Management.
  • Minimum 5+ years of hands on experience in master production scheduling 
  • Demonstrated experience with master scheduling tools such as SAP or other ERP systems
  • Expert in MRP, ERP, SAP and rough cut planning processes
  • Exceptional computer skills; ERP, Business Intelligence systems or equivalent and Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Good understanding of S&OP process
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate across multiple departments and through multiple levels of the organization
  • Solid analytical skills in forecasting and anticipating production needs and capabilities
  • Demonstrated influencing, negotiating and conflict management skills
  • Excellent collaborative management skills
  • Strong working knowledge of effective supply chain performance including supply planning, customer service, supplier and asset management
  • Strong passion for creating process and systems improvement
  • CPIM or CSCP certifications from APICS

Working Conditions

This position is a technical and a functional position under limited to moderate supervision involving extensive data analysis, developing effective internal supplier relationships and SAP maintenance.  It requires a high degree of self-discipline to be productive, effective and timely in accomplishing tasks.  Out of town and overnight travel is up to 5% annually.
