General Accounting Manager

Job Overview
The General Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily, monthly, and annual operations for the centralized accounting functions. They will develop and implement systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information. A successful General Accounting Manager will provide support to other Accounting and Finance department leaders as well as leaders throughout the organization by ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the company’s financial reports.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Establish, publish and enforce general accounting policies and procedures.
- Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of journal entries for standard and non-standard items.
- Maintain and review accuracy of general ledger balances, including preparation of monthly account reconciliations.
- Prepare financial statements for business leaders, the board of directors, and shareholders in an accurate and timely manner.
- Identify variances within financial data and properly identify and communicate root causes.
- Seek to improve operations that increase the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting and data.
- Perform and/or oversee required financial audits for the company.
- Keeping financial information accurate and compliant with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Participate in special projects and perform other accounting related duties as requested.
- Provide support, supervision, training, and development of their direct reports to promote problem-solving skills, efficiency, understanding, and professional growth.
- Become a highly-skilled user in the ERP system as it pertains to accounting and finance, and use that knowledge to help drive productivity, efficiency, and accuracy.
Skills and Qualifications
- 7-10 years of experience in general accounting, finance and accounting services, etc. required
- Experience in transportation and/or distribution preferred
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or another related field is strongly preferred
- Prior leadership experience is required
- Shown professionalism through clear and concise communication with internal teams, external customers and key stakeholders
- Proficient understanding and use of Microsoft Office Suite products, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, finance and asset management systems, and business analytics tools
- Experienced and forward-thinking professional with operational experience and a proven track record of creative problem solving and change management
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
- Ability to develop processes, procedures and reporting
- Ability to collaboratively work with leaders within and outside of their department
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift/carry 50lbs infrequently
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
