HTC Creative Labs 
HTC Creative Labs is a product design, prototyping, and incubation studio that provides design strategy for all of HTC and collaborates directly with teams in Seattle, Taipei, and San Francisco to bring new designs to market. This team is responsible for much of HTC’s most significant product and experience design work over the past decade. Our current focus is on creating next-generation XR software and hardware experiences for the HTC VIVE brand. We are a small, cross-functional team of designers, artists, developers, and researchers with the feel of a startup. Our process relies on the collaboration of exceptionally talented individuals to create products that offer functional benefits and emotional resonance to our target audiences. 

About Your Next Opportunity
We are seeking a talented and passionate Principal CMF Designer to join our SF Industrial Design team to work on the future of spatial computing (VR/AR) and the related ecosystem. This designer will be responsible for shaping the vision for HTC-VIVE’s overarching CMF strategy, develop roadmaps, create concepts, and oversee a variety of color/material developments through manufacturing. This position requires the ability to work collaboratively with other designers, ergonomists, engineers and program managers in an iterative fashion, across time zones with an expected 2-4 business trips to Taiwan annually. A viable candidate must demonstrate their ability to deliver first-class design solutions that reflect an understanding of the end user’s needs while balancing the underlying complexity or constraints.

Hard Skills

  • Expert in building beautifully crafted CMF narratives, strategy, and comprehensive guidelines
  • Hands-on creation of digital and physical CMF concepts that align with our strategy
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CMF design methodology and process
  • High-level understanding of diverse material technology and manufacturing processes
  • End to end product development experience with a track record of delivering high-quality CMF palettes leading to successful products to the market
  • Creative leadership to support all teams that need CMF expertise and guidance
  • Curate materials to sustain and expand our innovation in CMF library
  • Expert in Adobe Suite (photoshop, illustrator)
  • Experience in wearables and soft goods are highly preferred
  • Knowledge of Keyshot or other rendering software is a plus
  • Knowledge of CREO package, Solidworks, Rhino, Grasshopper, or other CAD software is a plus
  • Knowledge in UI/UX is a plus

Soft Skills

  • Proactively initiate CMF brainstorming and foster design trend discussion to inspire the team
  • Ability to train and mentor junior CMF staff mentor for their professional development
  • Anticipate cost, schedule, technology, and other risks with the ability to pivot quickly with alternatives solutions and articulate tradeoffs
  • Ability to communicate with clarity and effectively present in front of various stakeholders
  • Collaboratively negotiate with a cross-functional team including marketing, engineering, and suppliers – stay flexible while maintain design intent into production
  • Organizes and prioritizes deadlines/deliverables for CMF samples and production parts
  • Co-owns issues-list with the ME/PM team to tracks and assigns tasks accordingly
  • Effectively manages vendors for ID/CMF deliverables and schedules
  • Embraces ambiguity and are motivated to navigate unchartered paths
  • Escalates resourcing, HR, design, and other issues in a constructive manner to the leadership

Qualifications

  • 8+ years CMF experience in a relevant industry
  • Bachelors/Masters in relevant field
  • Ability to manage internal/external teams and associated deliverables
  • Ability to deliver major aspects CMF projects independently of ID/ME/PM support
  • Ability to fully own entire project - design inception, issues tracking, manufacturing modifications
