Position Summary:

NYU’s Teacher Residency was created in 2016 by the faculty in NYU Steinhardt’s Department of Teaching & Learning. We currently partner with school districts and charter organizations in NY, CA, Washington DC, FL, and CT to prepare the next generation of teachers for our partnering communities through a one year teacher residency. Participants spend a year learning to teach embedded in a school while earning a Master of Arts in Teaching degree taught by Steinhardt faculty. Coursework is delivered online and aspiring teachers are supported through intensive coaching and mentoring by NYU Steinhardt faculty and experienced teachers in our partnering school communities. The goal of NYU’s Teacher Residency is to ensure graduates are ready to be effective teachers from Day 1 in the classroom.

As the Partnership Manager you will join a small and growing team responsible for driving the growth strategy for NYU’s Teacher Residency (NYU TR) and support HotChalk’s broader team which partners with NYU’s Department of Administration, Leadership & Technology to administer an Education Doctorate (EdD) in Leadership & Innovation.  This individual will work as a part of a newly created team to identify prospective district/charter partners, and will ensure that the partners are onboarded as members of NYU TR’s partner network smoothly and efficiently. The ideal candidate has knowledge of school districts or charter organizations, and has experience providing operational support, preferably in a partnerships, sales or high volume recruitment context. This is a full time position reports to the Vice President, University Partnerships. Strong operational management, relationship management, an entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to creating equitable K - 12 schools is required to find success in this role.  Experience developing systems, processes and structures is highly preferred.

HotChalk works in partnership with NYU Steinhardt to offer two innovation models in the education sector: the NYU Teacher Residency which prepares teachers, and the EdD in Leadership & Innovation for leaders across multiple sectors.  HotChalk is responsible for establishing relationships with districts and charter partners, marketing, recruitment, enrollment services, online learning platforms and supports, student support services, and data analytics.  NYU Steinhardt holds all academic decisions including student admissions decisions, curriculum, faculty hiring, and collaborates closely on district and charter partnerships. Together, students in the Teacher Residency and EdD participate in unique programs that take the best from a worldclass A-1 research university and combines it with the flexibility and know-how of a nimble education technology company.

Outcomes:

The Partnership Manager will be successful in the first year if they reach these milestones:

  • At 3 months:
    • Is able to speak compellingly about the NYU Teacher Residency
    • Has developed a strong working knowledge of the EdD in Leadership & Innovation 
    • Is conducting top of funnel sales calls with potential school district and charter partner programs and successfully routing interested organizations to more senior partnerships staff
    • Has developed relationships with the NYU’s HotChalk team and has mapped and clarified support for their work
    • Is partnering with school district / charter partners to ensure selection of new residents is happening in 28 days
    • Is partnering with school district personnel, NYU Field Office staff, and enrollment team to ensure processes are established to assign half-day Residents to classrooms for the fall and communicate placements
    • Is supporting event execution for NYU Teacher Residency and EdD in Leadership & Innovation programs
  • At 6 months:
    • Is conducting top of funnel sales calls with potential school district and charter partner programs and successfully routing interested organizations to more senior partnerships staff
    • Has developed a system for streamlined and clear communication of the placements to half day Residents. 
    • Has developed key systems to support partnerships teams (e.g. managing letters of intent, memos of understanding, streamlining placement of residents, etc.)
    • Is accessing and organizing data from Salesforce to provide reporting about progress towards the goals of the partnerships team
    • Leading event execution for EdD in Leadership & Innovation programs and supporting events for NYU Teacher Residency
  • At 12 months:
    • Has begun to drive major process improvements around partner cultivation, partner onboarding, and resident placement to prepare for future growth of the program
    • Leading event execution for EdD in Leadership & Innovation programs and NYU Teacher Residency

Partner Outreach, Cultivation and Acquisition

  • Develop systems and structures to identify and research potential school district and charter network partners
  • Conduct outreach to school districts and charter networks to identify partners for the NYU TR
  • Develop systems and structures to manage passoff of met potential partners to other Strategic Partnerships team staff and to support them in closing partnerships
  • Work with NYU Teaching & Learning faculty to implement systems and structures to assess NYU TR partner fit

Onboarding & Maintaining Partnerships

  • Create and scale systems related to onboarding of new school district and charter partners
  • Work with the recruitment team to assume leadership of support of partners to select residents within 28 day time window
  • In service of the Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships vision, collect and house data related to partner experience and resident retention

Operations and Systems

  • Assume management of operations related to working with NYU TR partners on resident selection and hiring
  • Work with the Academics team and the Field Office in NYU’s Department of Teaching and Learning to identify placement classrooms for teacher candidates in the half - day Teacher Residency
  • Work with marketing and enrollment teams to communicate placements to half - day Residency candidates
  • Work with the partnerships team to develop a clear vision for Salesforce data, partner with the Salesforce team to customize Salesforce, create necessary systems for data entry, and develop tools and reports for data analysis
  • Create and manage against plans to drive events related to securing and retaining district and charter partners
  • Create and implement structures and routines to build a strong working culture for the University Partnership team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education and experience:
    • A Bachelor’s Degree is required
    • 3 years of work experience in an operational role is required; that this experience happened in an education organization, high volume recruitment and/or sales environment is preferred
  • Skills and Mindsets:
