Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood, lumber manufacturing plants, and sixteen specialty wood product distribution operations, located in fourteen states serving northeast, southeast, and southwest United States.
 
Hood Plywood, a division of Hood Industries, Inc., is seeking an Automation Process Specialist for our Beaumont, MS facility. This position would play a key role in the successful development and implementation of an automated production process that will be installed at the facility.  This is a greenfield site that will employ up to 250 employees. The selected candidate must be able to train at our Wiggins, MS facility and then transfer to the Beaumont facility once the automated production process is deployed to that location. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and monitor the testing of new adhesive delivery system and document system performance.
  • Manage the adhesive subsystem including infeed adhesive coordination and adhesive purge as needed.
  • Work closely with production to coordinate the manufacture of the finished product.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in the areas of process flow and product quality.
  • Perform periodic maintenance of the delivery system and surrounding equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Assist with the setup and integration of a robotics work cell.
  • Using a touch panel interface, program operational runtime for the work cell and adjust adhesive application levels.
  • Enter work cell area as needed to resolve issues requiring intervention, using Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and other safe work practices to service this process.
  • Troubleshoot issues and contact support when downtime occurs.
  • Perform periodic maintenance on the work cell including cleaning lenses, spray tips, grippers, and other functions as required to ensure optimal performance.
  • This position will be the key liaison between the manufacturing facility and OEM.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the team and vision for the facility. This may include duties and responsibilities as assigned and a flexible schedule.
  • Champion a culture of reliability.
Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience.
  • A mechanical aptitude is required for this position. Experience as a mechanic or mechanical technician is preferred.
  • Proven ability to problem solve, think critically, and drive process improvement.
  • Demonstrated record of implementing continuous improvement initiatives in a production operation or maintenance environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, production, procurement) on automation-focused projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to motivate and guide the maintenance team towards a culture of reliability.
  • Computer knowledge including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and CMMS.
  • Must be willing to travel to the equipment manufacturer for technical training when scheduled.
Preferred Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related discipline.
  • Continuous education and/or additional certifications.
