Trimmer Operator
Description
Hood Industries, Inc. is seeking a Trimmer Operator to join our team at our Bogalusa, LA lumber facility. The Trimmer Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring trimmer equipment to process lumber efficiently and accurately while supporting production goals, product quality, and workplace safety. This role is essential to the success of our sawmill operations and offers the opportunity to work in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the trimmer and related equipment, including conveyors and feeders, to process lumber through the production line.
- Inspect lumber and make trimming decisions based on quality and production specifications.
- Monitor equipment performance and report on mechanical issues or production concerns.
- Assist with minor maintenance and routine upkeep of the trimmer and related machinery.
- Handle and move lumber as required throughout the shift.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and maintenance personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn lumber mill safety standards and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and reach throughout the work shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and industrial conditions.
- Ability to work around moving equipment and machinery.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced lumber mill environment.
- Exposure to wood dust, noise, moving machinery, and varying weather conditions.
- Requires adherence to all safety and quality standards.
Safety:
- Follow all company and department safety procedures.
- Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Inspect equipment and work areas before operation.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures when required.
- Report on unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment concerns immediately.
Hourly Rate: $19.13
