Position at Hood Lumber

Responsibilities: 

  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic/pneumatic systems, gears, reducers, bearings, sprockets, chains, belts, and valves. 
  • Cut, weld, and fabricate components as needed. 
  • Assist electricians and other maintenance personnel as needed. 
  • Assist equipment operators as necessary and may provide operator relief for operation of process equipment. 
  • Assist with clean-up mill wide. 
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and detailed repair drawings related to sawmill equipment and machinery.
  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment when required for repair. 

Education and Experience: 

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years work experience as a millwright.
  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • Maintenance experience in a sawmill, manufacturing, or other industrial environment.
  • Ability to understand, clearly communicate, and follow all safety rules and policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly utilizing hand, eye, and foot coordination.
  • Able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

Testing Requirements: 

  • Must be able to pass mechanical knowledge test and hands on assessment.  
Physical Requirements:
  • Performs tasks such as walking, climbing steps/ladders, sitting, and standing for long periods.
  • Able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to work outside in all conditions, in and around loud equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. throughout the work shift.
