Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood, lumber manufacturing plants, and twenty-three specialty wood product distribution operations, located in fifteen states serving northeast, southeast, and southwest United States. 
  
We are hiring a Planer Feeder Operator at our lumber mill located in Silver Creek, MS. We are seeking highly performing and motivated team players to join our team and grow with us. This position will work the second shift and is a key player in the production of quality lumber. 
  
The primary purpose of a planer feeder operator is to feed lumber into the planer machine to produce quality lumber safely and efficiently, assuring smooth and efficient machinery operation as well as providing for a safe workplace. 
  
Key Responsibilities: 
 
  • Commitment to working safely and following safety rules/procedures, and environmental guidelines. 
  • Cross-train on production equipment. 
  • Must be able to identify different lengths and sizes of lumber. 
  • Must be able to effectively conduct a changeover of different sizes of lumber. 
  • Keep work area clean of loose boards or lumber from the feed table. 
  • Flip lumber for better quality from the planer. 
  • Assist in set-up and operating the planer, including changing and jointing knives, troubleshooting and basic equipment repair. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.  
 Education and Experience:
 
  • High school diploma/GED preferred. 
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Ability to understand, clearly communicate, and follow all safety rules and policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Observes all safety requirements, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient production.
  • Able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
Physical Requirements:
 
  • Perform tasks such as walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, grasping and standing for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Able to work in extreme temperatures and dusty and noisy conditions.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. throughout the work shift.
