Position at Hood Plywood

Hood Plywood, a division of Hood Industries, Inc., is seeking a PLC Technician for our Beaumont, MS facility. The PLC Technician is responsible for implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining systems including electrical, controls, drives and other systems. This position would play a key role in the successful development and implementation of an automated production process. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Participation/compliance with company safety programs and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Provides onsite support for construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, and diagnostics on various equipment.
  • Assist in Programmable Logic Control (PLC) troubleshooting on equipment.
  • Perform routine diagnostic checks on electrical systems, monitor automated systems, isolate problems, and perform repairs.
  • Participating in root cause analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Provide onsite controls and support for all areas of the mill during operating shifts as needed.
  • Work with programming of Variable Frequency Drives, Allen Bradley software, and troubleshooting PLCS’s as needed.
  • Maintain measurement systems, instrumentation, and electrical devices and equipment.
  • Monitor logs, run scans, and perform updates and testing of new and old applications.
  • Complete work orders and documentation accurately and in a timely manner. 
  • Maintain technical knowledge through training programs, workshops, and on-the-job learning 
  • Perform periodic electrical maintenance of all areas of the mill.
  • Work with Electrician’s and Millwrights on repairs within all areas of the mill.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate degree in robotic industrial automation, and/or industrial controls a plus.
  • Manufacturing or industrial experience required; wood products experience preferred. 
  • Two years of PLC experience required.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix preferred 
  • Knowledge of industrial electricity, motor controls, VFDs, and AC drives. 
  • Must be willing to work any shift, holidays, weekends and overtime as needed
  • Willing to work in a hot, cold, noisy, and industrial environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk climb, bend, and work in industrial environment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work at heights, and safely use tools and equipment. 
  • Electrical experience for 24 vdc to 480 vacs preferred.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Time management with proven ability to solve problems, think critically, and drive process improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, production, procurement) on automation-focused projects.

Pay Range: $28.71 - $41.52/per hour
