The Director of Lumber Manufacturing Operations is a key position supporting the Vice President of Manufacturing Operations in the execution of critical business activities at the manufacturing locations. This role will collaborate with executive management and direct plant management to optimize all safety, production, manufacturing, maintenance, and supply chain processes to drive improvement on those processes. This position reports to the Vice President of Manufacturing Operations and will provide tactical support to achieve performance goals and objectives.

KEY LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBLITIES:
  • Become an expert and example of “The Hood Way.” Guide others in the organization, at all levels, to ensure that our manufacturing facilities operate in accordance with the Hood Management Philosophy of People-Process-Performance.
  • Lead and model safety excellence. Ensure that all activities within our operations are executed to a level that achieves and sustains our safety objectives and requirements.
  • Works directly with the VP of Manufacturing Operations to develop, refine, and implement the strategy and vision for our operational units.
  • Assess and assist in upgrading the management and talent base within our operations to achieve performance expectations and goals. Create and lead training and development plans for direct reports. Oversee training and development for plant level management and high potential candidates.
  • Ensure attainment of efficient and economical performance in relation to profit and year-end goals through a data driven, KPI/KSF based process. 
  • Coordinate needed support to operations through interdepartmental interface for smooth workflow and cost-effective production and service.
  • Contributes to the overall short- and long-range planning process and in the establishment and assessment of the organization’s annual operating budget.
  • Participate in the discovery, review and implementation of new services, manufacturing processes and product or systems technologies to meet the organizations objectives with respect to short- and long-term goals.
  • Work with Executives, Plant Managers, Finance, People Operations, Safety, Procurement and Sales and Marketing as well as other key stakeholders to review current working practices and processes to determine maximum efficiency and viability.
  • Analyze operational efficiency data and share findings with Executive leadership and key stakeholders to ensure the maximization of operating effectiveness as well as opportunity attainment.
  • Direct and lead various projects essential to improving Key Success Factors (safety, production, quality, value, recovery, cost, employee engagement, turnover, and performance) through capital plans and deployment for the Manufacturing Division.
  • Oversees compliance of established policies.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:                                   
  • Bachelor’s level education in business, engineering, or a related area; or equivalent job experience, and
  • Five years of leadership experience in a manufacturing position, preferably in the wood products industry with at least two years involving manufacturing operations.
